Joeri is a graduate of the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam in Jazz and Improvised music.

He studied with Lucas van Merwijk & Jan-Hein van Huizen, Masterclasses with John Engels & Henk Zomer. He is specialized in Brazilian, Cuban & Caribbean music.

Since 1983 he has been playing in various bands with various styles, in Europe as well as in the Caribbean and South America.
In Brazil he worked with Ze Luis Maia, Joao Meirelles, Tony Botelho, Osmar Milito, Leila Maria & Nelson Turin Jr. In 2003 he did shows with Flavia Virginia (daughter of Djavan) and Gisa Pithan in the Netherlands. He played on the Percuba festival in 2000 (Havana-Cuba) and recorded there in the famous ICAIC studio, with Afrekete (folkloric group from Cuba) and played with them in the Netherlands.

He also worked with Patrick Sedoc, Dele Sosimi, Roy Paci, Iwan van Hetten, Efraim Trujillo, Reno Steba, Joe Rivera, Lesley Joseph, Ana Beck, Jose Lopretti, Leslie Lopez, Tico Pierhagen, Billy Obam, Henne Reijs, Carlo Muringen, Patrick van Herrikhuyzen, Jan Verwey, Thijs van Otterloo, Catalin Milea, Rory Ronde, Javier Campos Martinez, Emmanuel Massarotti, Felipe Sequeira, Robin van Geerke, Peter Bjornild, Lorand Sarna, Harm Wijntjes, Leo Bouwmeester, Bryan Leinwand.

He played on different cd's: Patrick Sedoc - Facing Changes (1998), Alexander Broussard - The Piano, Bernie's Lounge - Red Mango (2007), Medica 2000, Zimbolico - Tribute to the Zimbo Trio (2014)

Currently working as freelance drummer/percussionist and music educator
