John, BORN OCTOBER 25TH 1957 and was raised in Gary, Indiana, started his training as a pianist at the ripe age of 6 years old . While being Classically trained by Dr Gradual Whittamore (PhD. Julliard School of Music) in Gary Indiana John Performed in yearly Summer Classical Recitals during his formative years. John also began to learn how to play Trombone at age 11 years old while being in the CYO band at the Holy Angels Cathedral Grade/Middle(K-8) School in Gary Indiana and by virtue of his Grade point Average and his progress of development John was accepted and attended Andrean High School (Private school in Merriville Indiana)and continued to develop his trombone skills he began his Jazz piano studies during the summers with clinicians such as Kenny Baron, Ronnie Mathews, James Williams ,and Mulgrew Miller by attending The Jamey Abersold Clinics which included improvisation studies with Woody Shaw, Joe Henderson and David Baker. John attended jazz piano seminars given by George Duke and Chick Corea during his High School years Moreover, John continued his Classical Piano training under Naomi Ross (Oberlin School of Music).
After High School John was accepted and attended Berklee College of Music and is an Alumni of Berklee College of Music. James Williams and Mulgrew Miller were John’s Piano instructors at Berklee and after 2 years John transferred to LACC In Los Angeles to study Arranging and Composition under the direction of Don Simpson. Finally to round things out, John is a graduate of Langston University with a BSCS degree in Computer Science . John Has played with a variety of musicians from Donald Kinsey and the Kinsey report to Miles Davis, Kevin Eubanks, Ricky Minor Jeffery Osborne, Billy Ocean to Kanye West;, just to name of few of the plethora of musicians he's played with on stage. And from playing classical piano in Ballet classes to playing in the Burton Band; with over 50 years of experience is what you are hearing in John’s tracks regardless of style of music. John is performing as your Solo Pianist or keyboard player inall his compositions in real time. No Midi or computer wizardry is usedon any of his tracks. John isfrom Gary Indiana but resides in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
John Started playing with the Burton Band in Oklahoma City at the Waterford Marriot Hotel March of 1996 and has been a part of the group ever since.
