My Original Soundtrack
The first styles that left their mark on me were Soul and the Motown sound that I got to know in my childhood and pre-adolescence. Artists like Otis Redding, Aretha Franklin, Sam Cooke, James Brown, Ray Charles, Wilson Picket and other greats, impressed me with their way of making and interpreting music and with their strength. On the other hand and within the Motown sound figures like Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye, Michael Jackson, Smokey Robinson, or The Temptations also did their part consolidating my love for black music, which years later, would culminate with my encounter with the Blues.
It wasn't until I came of age (helped by brothers and friends who broadened my sonic and rhythmic horizons), that I came across and got hooked on Blues, Jazz and Rock'n Roll (which I had already tasted but had not incorporated into my being). And so the names of Robert Johnson, Skip James, Charlie Patton, Charlie Patton, Son House, Leadbelly, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Bessie Smith, Koko Taylor, Muddy Waters, Howlin Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Willie Dixon, Elmore James, Sonny Boy Williamson I and II, Little Walter, (expired link). King, Bo Didley, Albert King... and a little less "oldies" and lighter skinned, names like John Mayall, Johnny Winter, Rory Gallagher, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eric Clapton, Peter Green, Bonnie Raitt, Johnny Lang, Susan Tedeschi and many others who adopted the Blues as their main means of expression, making it one of my favorite styles.
Within Jazz music, both sung and instrumental, there are also many musicians I admire...from Louis Armstrong, Sarah Vaughan, Dina Washington, Nina Simone, Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Charlie Parker, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Duke Ellington, Dizzy Gillespie or Thelonious Monk, to Wayne Shorter, Herbie Hancock or Randy Brecker to name a few.
Regarding Rock'n Roll, there have been and there are bands and artists that are for me support, reference and inspiration. I will name first some Spanish bands and artists that in one way or another have influenced and stimulated me with their music or attitude, until I made the firm decision to dedicate myself to music as a way of life, namely: Leño, Los Enemigos, Los Deltonos, Los Marañones, Rosendo, Siniestro Total, Los Ilegales, Los Lunáticos, Fito y los Fitipaldis, Joaquin Sabina, Tea, Tahures Zurdos, Josele Santiago, Hendrik Röver, Antonio Vega, Radio Futura and Chulagam, among others.
In the international scene and without taking into account a purely temporal or stylistic criterion, bands and artists such as: Chuck Berry, Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Led Zeppelin, The Who, The Clash, Crosby, Stills and Nash, The Kinks, Creedence Clearwater Revival, ZZ Top, Ten Years After, Neil Young, Elliot Murphy, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, The Beatles, The Rollig Stones, The Animals, The Birds, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, Bad Company, Queen, Bob Marley, The Police, Radiohead, Jeff Buckley, The Waterboys, The Cult, The Black Crowes, Richie Havens, Mike Farris, Aerosmith and many, many others; as well as many other national and international styles and artists that I will not name for reasons of space, but that contribute equally to enrich my existence.
All of them are already part of me. All of them have left with their music, their songs and stories, an indelible mark in the memory of time and also in my life. A unique and unrepeatable soundtrack that will always accompany me.
To all of them my gratitude, admiration and affection. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
To music... my unconditional and eternal love.
