A warm welcome and hello to all who listen to my songs. I love listening to all the Christmas songs playing on the radio at this time of the year. I have placed the 9 original Christmas songs I've written at the top of my list of recorded songs. The first eight were recorded in a studio and I love all of them. The singer James Gladson also arranged my melodies and is playing and singing the songs. The ninth song on the list, 'Let's Put Back The Clock To Christmas' is a very basic Demo sung by a very good friend of mine, Tadeusz Malinowski, who is a member of the songwriting group 'A Lilt Of Songwriters', that I run/lead for the Bournemouth U3A here in Dorset. He composed the tune and is playing and singing I am looking for a singer to do a more professional recording. Tad just recorded this demo on simple home equipment and although I like his melody it is not the one I 'heard' when writing the lyrics. The sentiment expressed in the song is one that is very dear to me as it is so hard to see the conflicts and needless killing in the many wars around the world, that are hardly reported on now, while we are celebrating Christmas, partying and receiving presents and all that entails in the mad run-up to the day itself. So please contact me with any comments and if you or anyone you know is interested in hearing the original melody and recording the song please let me know. My personal email is link
Now all that remains is for me to wish you a very Merry Christmas and I hope that 2020 is a happy and healthy year for you all. xx

Dear fans, I hope you know how much I appreciate you listening to my songs because I really do. I have never been about fame and fortune and accept that I am just an amateur songwriter. In fact I still find it hard to accept that I am a songwriter. I love the fact that all songs that I post on N1M are free to listen to worldwide. Make sure that you listen to as much music of all genres often as I am sure that like me you will find that music enhances your life Enjoy listening and I do hope your next visit to my songs will not be your last. Best wishes MavisEllen

Hi to all visitors to my page. If this is your first visit, Welcome, if it is a return visit, Thank you! All songs on this page have been written or co-written by me. I have spent some time organising how they are displayed as I write for a variety of singers and genres. All my songs are free to download and or stream. The 11 songs sung by Shaken Spice are 80's style pop, The 10 songs sung by Gaiamantra are reggae style pop songs, Then follows, at the moment 18 songs, an eclectic mix of singles recorded by a variety of singers. Then follows 9 war related songs which will be on a tribute album to my Dad who fought in the trenches. All these tribute songs are based on real stories/facts. My country songs come next and cover two albums 12 songs sung by The Heartliners and 9 by James Gladson. I have then added a new genre, Folk, to my page the first 12 are on an album called Calendar and the next 9 songs are on an album called Dorset Tales. All my folk songs are sung by The Straw Horses a Folk Duo based in Buckinghamshire. All my folk songs are played regularly on local radio here in Dorset. Lastly there are a large selection of pop and two albums of songs that I wrote for charity, 5 Irish songs which are sung acapella by me and I'm no singer but the songs are good and Christmas songs. More general songs will be added soon. I hope that each of you finds something that they enjoy listening to. Feedback is always welcome. My personal website is link I hope that you find time to drop in. Best wishes always MavisEllen Jackson.

I'd like to wish all Irish people, anywhere in the world, a very happy St Patrick's Day. I am English but I love Ireland and Eire. I wrote some songs when I was visiting and they have never been recorded as I have never found the right singer or backing group. The only recordings are of me singing them the day I wrote them. They are just recordings I made on my iPad. I often sing songs before I write the words and the melodies just sort of come as I make up the lyrics, I am not a singer and do not wish to be so these recordings are a very rare occurrence and I have only posted them for Saint Patrick's day. I will probably take them down quite quickly. If anyone knows of any Irish singers and musicians that would record the songs please contact me. Best wishes xxx MavisEllen

A very warm welcome to all the people listening to the songs on this page that I have written or co-written. Thank you to all who messaged their feedback. I am just so happy to hear that you are enjoying them. I'd like to answer a question that I am frequently asked. Several have questioned whether I am going to make/post a music video. The short answer is not for myself as I am not a performer. My pleasure comes from writing songs and composing melodies for others. Eventually there may be a video of someone singing especially on The Straw Horses page on N!M where there are 21 folk songs uploaded that I have co-written. If you like folk songs please visit their page. I love writing songs that tell a story and a wonderful story is that of a couple in their late eighties who had been married for almost 70 years. As a nurse I was privileged to meet this couple. The lady was dying and her husband visited all day, every day until she died 8 weeks after admission. I had many chats with the gentleman on the many occasions that she was sleeping. He always told me how wonderful his wife was and how lucky he was to have her love him. The many things I heard him say to her I have put into the song 'Amazing Love' It is not a sad song but a celebration of their life-long love. The other new song that I've uploaded 'Forty-Five Years' I wrote nearly six years ago. It will be my 52nd wedding anniversary later this year. The words in both songs speak for themselves. My personal website has been updated link Best wishes always MavisEllen

Hi everyone,
I hope that you all had some wonderful family orientated times over Christmas and I wish each of you and your families a Happy and Healthy 2019. Thank you for continuing to listen to the songs that I have written. I really feel honoured when you take the time to email me with feedback/comments. Today it would have been my sister Betty's birthday. She died, unexpectedly, in my arms, on 9th January 2004. Fifteen years ago but I still miss her so very much.
As children we were not unfriendly towards each other but we were not close. Betty would be indoors and I would be outside up a tree. We always went on holiday together to our relatives in Plymouth, Devon, but Betty would stay quietly with our eldest girl cousin and I would be up to mischief with my male cousins. As we grew older we grew very close. The lyrics tell the story.
Holding Hands
When small I delighted in annoying Betty whenever I could.
She'd sit in a shady spot beneath my tree with a book,
An easy target for me up above; Betty never understood
Me then; often gave me that 'older sister look,'
But she never went far away and that felt good.
I laughed; she jumped when things on her I shook!
But if ever I showed I was scared, and quite unplanned,
Betty would come to me and hold my hand.
Five years my elder; at Lynchet Cottage a bedroom shared.
Memories of frequent, huddled conversations.
Of frogs in beds; wild chases; and of tempers flared;
A plethora of family days with hordes of our relations;
Green-eyed Betty; beautifully slim and auburn-haired;
When my nightmares struck, she looked in consternation,
Cared enough to take the time, and quite unplanned,
Betty would come to me and hold my hand.
High days, holidays, time flew fast, shared moments, joys, tears, mirth,
Plymouth, memories flicker past, we grew, loved, wed, then gave birth.
Older, closer, how long did phone calls last? I know Betty'd understand,
I held her, as she left me quite unplanned; now it was my time to hold her hand.
My best wishes as always MavisEllen xx

I hope that you enjoy listening and please feel free to email me and tell me what you like or dislike about any of the songs. Hi to all my loyal listeners. I have added seven new songs. They are not pretty songs for I am a realist. The seven new songs are all based on real life stories that I have heard on previous Remembrance Days. I have written them as a tribute to all those that have been affected by wars anywhere, any time. I have been especially aware that it is the centenary of the end of the first world war. My Dad fought in that war in the trenches in France. He was called up 6 days after his eighteenth birthday. He served in the Warwickshire Regiment until he was so badly gassed that he could no longer go 'over the top' when the whistle was blown. He was transferred to the Service Corps and daily was involved in taking ammunition to the front on wagons pulled by horses. I found all this out at the Warwickshire Regiment's museum. I know that my liberty, freedom to speak and write was brought about by the millions that died or were wounded in that war. Best wishes always MavisEllen

Hi to all my lovely fans and/or listeners.
I have had a really weird year and a bit. I collapsed 24th February 2017 and ended up in hospital. I was diagnosed with Giant Cell Arteritis (Temporal Arteritis in the UK) which is inflammation of the arteries at the front of the brain and was started on high doses of steroids. Since then I have only had about 10 days without a thumping headache. Now this isn't a feel sorry for myself letter, I am just stating facts. I went from one small tablet a day to 18 and each has not so nice side effects. My sight is badly affected and my perception, I drop a lot of things and fall frequently. The funny thing is I have had one of the most productive years of my 13 years of writing songs. I have written and co written over 50 in that time of which 40 have been recorded. I am in the process of adding some of my personal songs, that is songs that I wrote for a reason. I do hope that you enjoy listening to them. As always my best song is always going to be my next one.
Best wishes to you all and be assured I shall go on writing songs for as long as I am able to see and write. xx MavisEllen
