Dear Abavuki fans and supporters,
We would firstly like to thank you all for your continued support and encouragement throughout the years. We would never have gotten to where we are today if it weren’t for you, the fans!
Some of you might know our story better than others, but 12 years ago a group of young boys from Langa, Cape Town got together because of a dream! One night one of the band members had a dream of brass melodies being played over traditional African drums. The next morning he started collecting people from his area who played different instruments and Abavuki was born! A little brass, a medium dose of marimba and a lot of driving African rhythm!
On Monday 15th September 2014, we launched our ‘Share Abavuki with the World’ crowdfunding campaign on, (expired link). Thundafund is an online crowdfunding platform for creatives and innovators in South Africa. Through Thundafund, entrepreneurs with their respective projects and ideas aim to raise capital and build a supportive crowd of backers through the process of crowdfunding.
We started with the aim to of raising a minimum of R10 000 during our 30-day campaign to be able to pay for Visas for Spain, flights from Spain to Morocco, Visas for Morocco and food for the 10 days. To read more about the campaign please go to (expired link).
We have so far raised R6 550 after 23 days.
We need R3 450 in 7 days to reach our crowdfunding milestone and keep all the funds raised! If we don’t, all funds raised will be returned to our backers.
We are calling on all our fans to please pledge to our campaign on (expired link) by buying one of our rewards offered; ranging from R200 CD’s signed by the band, to a R10 000 two-hour music performance. Your backing will be hugely appreciated and will contribute towards helping us achieve our dream of attending the 'Womex14' and 'Visa for Music' music festivals!
Please ‘like’ and follow us on Facebook ((expired link)) and Twitter (@AbavukiMusic) to keep updated with our campaign. You can help to #ShareAbavuki with your friends and networks by using the official campaign URL - (expired link).
