Liner Notes
Magic Man
‘You’ll know it when you see it’ my father, would say it, like it was the holy grail of wisdom. When I did
finally see it, I was around 10 years old and to this day I don’t know how he did it, but I was amazed and
since that day I have been very curious. I love mysteries and puzzles to solve, I also have a stubborn
resolve to admire brilliance and seek out those who excel at a, particular, skill, and just to let them know
that whether it was through sheer hard work or raw natural talent, I want to say ‘That was f--king
brilliant’ Keep it up.

O.B.I.T
If you hear some unpleasant stuff directed at you while you are alive, can you imagine what they are
going to say about you when you are dead? One of my favorite things to do in NYC was look at the
obituary column in the New York Times to see who died and what they said about them. With my own
sense of mortality long since realized, my day is coming. By the law of averages, I am two thirds of the
way through, will I write about myself or leave it to others? Please be kind.

Right In Front Of You
I imagine a young David Bowie seeing New York City for the first time. The brightness of the lights, the
glitter, the glamour and a youthful sense of invincibility that can inspire generations. It can also suck you
in and spit you out just as quick. I have been drawn to its people and its energy over the years, it
keeps re-inventing itself. Most people struggle to get out of, their own way. There are a few who take it
on and turn it into something fabulous.

Times Up
Very few people have any sympathy for well paid sports stars who are traded like cattle and told where
and when to report. It seems quite a brutal system where it rewards a few and everything else is
collateral damage. Even through the horse trading whether it’s in a sports team, a personal or business
relationship or a band for that matter the person on his or her way out know when their time is up. It is
instinctual. Keep an eye out for it.

Thelonious
Mister Monk as he was known was born and raised in Eastern North Carolina. It is a beautiful, rural and
unforgiving landscape. He battled ‘the crazy’ most of his life and with it came the genius. Recognized as
one of the jazz greats, he had style and played his instrument the Thelonious way. It would be great to
see other talent dedicate themselves to the craft and excel to the Pulitzer Prize level. I am not saying
you have to, but you can try.
