A tale about a gig...
Hi friend,
I thought I would tell you a story.....
Recently, I was playing a gig at the Westpac Centre in Melbourne. It was a wedding, and they had booked me to play before and after the ceremony. The gig went well, I got loads of great compliments about my music and my voice, which is always nice.
After I had finished, I was loading out my gear, which was quite a lot as I'd used my bigger P.A. system! A man who had been sitting quietly, drinking a beer at one of the outside tables, watching me going back and forth with trolleys full of stuff suddenly spoke up and said, "You need a Roadie". I naturally agreed with him, as a Roadie is something I have dreamed of for some time now!
The man went on to offer up his teenage son as my own personal Roadie, and asked me to give him a business card, so that he could get his son to contact me. I laughed and continued packing up my stuff, assuming he was joking.
As I was passing the man with my last trolley-load, he called out "Hey, what about your card?". It turns out that he was in fact very serious and went on to say that his son was a really great kid, very reliable and strong! His wife also said that she felt like she could trust me to have their son travelling around to gigs with me. Unfortunately, I had to tell them that I couldn't afford to pay him! It turns out he lived on the opposite side of the city to me anyway, and it wouldn't have been practical. A really nice gesture though, and I am always amazed at peoples kindness and helpfulness.
Stay happy, healthy and wealthy this month. Thank you for being a fan.
Barry.
