Beat Assassins are on a mission to create cheeky, quirky, bouncy yet powerful drum n bass tracks for the clubs and ipods. Although the name Beat Assassins is plural the act is now only one person. That person is called Jimmy Mofo and this is how it all began.
Jimmy Mofo began his DJ career in the mid nineties establishing a weekly drum n Bass & breakbeat night called Mofo @ The Borderline Club, London.
Come 2006 Jimmy started Beat Assassins with Joe Lenzie from Sigma. Beat Assassins became a fundamental part of the breakbeat scene winning various music awards and DJing at major music events around the world that included Australia, USA, Russia and European countries such as Spain and Germany. Beat Assassins released their tracks through their music label Mofo Recordings, most of which went straight into the top 10 in the breakbeat charts in DJ Magazine & download site Beatport.
By 2010 the Electronic music scene had changed so much with the introduction of dubstep alongside other exciting new genres such as fidget & bassline house, that Beat Assassins eventually found themselves in a scene that was no longer musically relevant to what they were producing. This then resulted in Jimmy & Joe amicably going their own separate ways.
Then in 2012 Jimmy started a Trap / Grime project with DJ Sai called Koshii. Head over to www.soundcloud/koshii for more info.
In 2016 Jimmy went back to his roots and started producing drum n bass under the Beat Assassins moniker. A strong selection of new Beat Assassins tracks have been released. Watch out for Beat Assassins ultra ego Space Yardie created by the vocalist Sifu Chan. This persona features in their latest video . The Space Yardie is seen wandering the streets of London accompanied by Parkour free runners escaping the mundane grind of everyday life. The video received 2,000 views in the first week of its release.
Beat Assassins single “Deny” ft ELi in the first week of it’s release received 3.5k plays on facebook with over 4k plays on soundcloud.
A selection of high profile dnb producers have been remixing Beat Assassins in 2016. DJ Callide, 1000DaysWasted, DJ Rap, D’Silva, Toronto is Broken, SKMA & TREI which recieved plays on Friction’s Radio One show.
In 2017 Beat Assassins plan to release more drum n bass tracks ft vocalists Alex Holmes, Miss Stylie & Stella Rhymes alongside some high profile remixes while performing at UK festivals. Details coming soon.
