BlackLeonardo, born David Watkins; is an artist hailing from Newport News, VA. His love for music was ever present though he didn't truly realize this until he was in 8th grade during a weekly talent showcase in his chorus class. As a result he went on to participate in multiple All-City and District Choral events. Later on in his junior and senior years, David won multiple choral awards by way of tremendous performances he put on in various shows. Aside from his choral duties at Heritage, David also participated in an ROTC like program known as The J.E.T. Corps. Here, David immediately made an impact as a newcomer in a program full of tenured members. Subsequently, this earned him an award for Best JET of the Year while also being granted the opportunity to play his instrument of choice in the piano and sing before his peers and mentors in their yearly Black Tie Galas. While attending his second Black Tie Gala, David had the chance to sing one of his all time favorites in "You'll Never Find" for famous singer and recording artist Trey Songz along with his then producer Delante Murphy. David was then given the opportunity to present an award to Trey for his work in the community. Following his graduation from Heritage High School, David followed up on continuing his education at Norfolk State University where he received a scholarship from the esteemed Dr. Carl Haywood of the Norfolk State University Concert Choir. While settling into life on campus, David took up an invitation to participate in a Freshman talent. Unsure of his new surroundings he took the opportunity and won 1st place. With his newfound respect, David worked tirelessly to make name for himself within his new choral family. Thus eventually earning him the chance to become a part of the highly touted Spartan Chorale, a group of select few individuals that travel to different areas to showcase the talent being honed at Norfolk State University. Since then, David has been working and molding his craft to release a debut project.
