CiCaDiA- John Clark

CiCaDiA is Fun, Weird, Trippy, and Enticing. CiCaDiA is a Neo-Psychedelic Folk album from John Clark. Featuring a plethora of weird sounds, and an interesting combination of non typical instrumentation and traditional folk music, CiCaDiA offers a truly unique listening experience that is anything but normal. Track Listing Stickfolk Dream, Pt. 1 Hoppy The Insect Inside Bugs in My Skin Magic Walking Stick Sqirmy Hermes: A Snail Tale Red Centipede’s Cicada Choir Moonbug Secondhand Daniel Goonicorn Should You Need Us King of Cicadia My Hearts In You Hoppy’s Song Stickfolk Dream, Pt. 2 Perhaps the greatest stroke of brilliance behind CiCaDiA is the artist’s ability to keep changing the sounds and stylings throughout the record but still managing to keep a straight line throughout that the most casual of listeners can comprehend and enjoy. For example, the first track “Stickfolk Dream, Pt. 1” opens with the sounds of a Cicada, followed by a portion of acoustic guitar driven music, which is then followed by a series of nature sounds with background noises which adds a soundtrack feel. Whereas on the completely opposite side of the spectrum, the second track titled “Hoppy” sounds and feels like a collaboration of the songwriter style of The Beatles with progressive undertones of Yes. Next comes “The Insect Inside”, which certainly is an appropriate title, as the combination of diminishing Ukulele chords, horn sounds, stormy sounds, and acoustic lead guitar give an eerie feel that something is under your skin. Speaking of things under your skin, the next track is titled “Bugs in My Skin”, which is another progressive sounding psychedelic folk song. “Magic Walking Stick” takes on a bit more of a traditional folk approach, until the trippy vocals come in. “Squirmy Hermes: A Snail Tale”, written by Peter Rodenberg, offers a story from the perspective of a snail, with traditional folk music accompanying the lyrics to help tell the “Snail Tale”. All of this varying styling that has been mentioned is all within the first 6 songs, and there are still 9 which I haven’t even mentioned! As one can tell, there is a great deal of creativity and stylistic variance which comprises John Clark’s “CiCaDiA” album. This album is fun, weird, trippy, and just simply enjoyable to listen to. You can’t help but feel enticed by the music, as listening to this album is more than just listening to an album, it truly is a unique experience. Don’t take my word for it, you need to give it a listen for yourself. Stream it on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/album/3STanZEndf9X8gThyvkSPl?si=bZaUND3aTvWRKCTzHA74rg
