About Calling London
Calling London was formed in the spring of 1996 in Shippensburg, PA. Founding members, Steve Ott and Ron Cederlund, wanted to create their own music using many of the influences that inspired them growing up, while trying to create their own sound.
The name “Calling London” came about as both Ott and Cederlund were really into the music coming out of England in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Especially the New Wave music in the 80s. You can hear that influence in their music. It was like the music scene in England was calling to them. And that is how the name came to be.
Ott and Cederlund first met in the summer of 1992 at a music charity event. They got to talking about the music that influenced them and found that they had a lot in common. They developed a strong friendship and wanted to put their musical talents together. They started playing in cover bands while working on their own music before creating Calling London.
Calling London's sound has been described as melodic rock, progressive rock and new wave. Being influenced by such artists as ELO, The Police, Rush, Queen, Styx, Devo, The Fixx, Thomas Dolby and many others.
Calling London recorded their first album in the summer of 1997 which was a self titled album. Their second album was recorded in the winter of 2000 titled "Fear". Playing all the instruments themselves with a few guest musicians. Both albums generated some interest in Europe to some good reviews.
Calling London is currently working on their third album with hopes of more albums to follow. (expired link)
