Detroiter Carolyn Striho has a well-deserved reputation as a vibrant, dynamic performer, singer, musician and songwriter whose music makes you think. Carolyn’s vivid songs have been described as “from the silver edge of midnight” (All Music Guide) and with her charismatic, spirited and honest delivery, mixed with her powerful rock and roll gypsy sound, she has hypnotized crowds for years.
Carolyn was on the Grammy Awards First Ballot 2018 for Best Rock Album with her recent album, “Afterthought.” A frequent Detroit Music Award winner, Carolyn has received 11 Detroit Music Awards, and a Billboard Music Award.
Carolyn has performed on tour with Patti Smith and with Don Was, Yoko Ono, Iggy Pop, Steve Earle, Tori Amos, Sinead O'Connor, Grace Jones and so many iconic artists. She’s also played with The Slits, The Ramones, Iggy Pop and many more. Carolyn’s performed several times in London (expired link)., Rome, Italy, for two months in Japan, and many shows in Toronto. She has also played Chicago and New York, on Lollapalooza, at The Detroit Jazz Festival, Concert of Colors, many times at Arts Beats & Eats, and so many festivals, clubs and galleries throughout Detroit, the Midwest and Italy.
From her art rock and punk rock days to her melodic, inspiringly soulful acrobatic performances, Carolyn is working on new songs to be released soon. She has a new poetry/lyric book “Detroit (Maiden Energy)” on Aquarius Press Detroit, just out to great reviews and features and in several Detroit-area and northern Michigan bookstores and record stores. “Detroit (Maiden Energy)” is on Amazon, Target and Barnes and Noble websites, too.
