Cathy Varna LA VALISE ET L ETOILE
Cathy Varna LA VALISE ET L ETOILE So I did a google translate of the title and got this THE SUITCASE AND THE STAR a sharp reminder I have no idea what she is singing. When I hear songs in a different language I just imagine wat the words ight be and it normally turns out way far off. Still If Cathy Varna approaches your venue with a recording {notice I didn't say demo it time to take a moment and have a listen. It is clear from this song this is a seasoned performer with a good voice and vocal delivery. A small backing quartet is all that is needed to please an audience at an upscale club or theatre.

Dark Voice, Dark Song
Very sad song about transport to concentration camp.. Obviously the message is "never forget". French chanson as I would expect a French chanson. You now that in Middle Europe Chanson does not only mean Song, it is understood as genre typical for France. Vocal performance, arrangement, mixing is perfect. Long intro, today untypical for pop, fits quite well as I mention that we in middle Europe see chanson as genre. Btw greetings to Cannes where I come every year.

l'histoire magique

Embora eu não compreenda a língua, a melodia me induz à emoção. Parabéns a todos os envolvidos nesta produção!

A song to pull at your heartstrings
French singer-songwriter Cathy Varna's "La Valise Et L'Etoile" (The Suitcase and the Star) from her album "Ils Étaient Fond Noir" begins like the opening of a dramatic film, with its commanding drums and orchestral string sounds. The mood is set for Cathy's rich, stunning voice, filled with emotion and wisdom, and can I just say that it's magnificently recorded?. The plaintive melody draws you toward the passionate chorus and pulls you through what feels like a cross-country tour of deep expression. While I'm not sure where this song falls on the album, it would make a perfect dramatic finale. If you're fond of the swelling anthems from a Broadway musical like The Phantom of the Opera, I think you'll enjoy this wonderful piece of music, whether you understand French or just the universal language of emotion.

In My Opinion
Greetings, Thank you for choosing me to review your work, I count it an honor to be included in such a task. My hat is off to you and anyone willing to step out and share their gift, talent and love of music to the public. Be it a musician, singer, song writer, actor and so-on. I myself, via 40 some years of experience in the fields, on the road, in the studio, radio, TV, video, and management, consider myself to be a seasoned musician, singer, song writer, studio-sound tech/engineer/ owner/operator, stage manager, find it sometimes hard/difficult and perhaps not even fair to sit in a seat, voicing My Opinion concerning another's creative efforts. Especially in certain genres of music I am not all that familiar with concerning very important elements that make up and meet the required standards to justify the various levels of ratings and grades. So, in saying ALL that, I will limit myself to MY Opinion concerning the quality of the work according to My ears, and the standards I have been familiarized with thru-out the years. I hold to the old - saying " Beauty Is In The EAR of The Beholder ... LOL. The sound quality of the recording over-all is very crisp and bright and clear, I really enjoyed the drama/emotion in this song.Think about a music solo break to step away from vocals for a short period in future works. Vocals are smooth and natural, sort of - down to earth as they say, and extremely peaceful. The mix levels let me know who was still in charge of this song. Very easy to sit back and listen to. I mean no offense in any part, I myself take all feedback and use it as a tool toward my next project. I pray you feel the same way. Either way, I say to you, keep doing what you do, keep kicking and enjoying what you do. I tell folks all the time for many years. When it stops being FUN, then it's time to stop, and stand back and think about what we are doing, why we are doing it, how we are doing it, what we and others are getting out it. Is it what we want, and how we want it. IF NOT. what are willing to do from there? Thank you again for asking MY OPINION. Johnny

Unusual and powerful song capturing one of the darkest events in recent history
A stunning big production number that captures musically the essence of this tragic story. Even before I opened the lyrics to read along as the song unfolded (France is not my first language so needed a little help) , the music had conjured up the right mental image of the slow train gathering momentum to a sinister future. It is very rare to encounter this subject matter tackled in popular song, all credit to the writers for doing so and to Cathy Varna for delivering an impassioned performance.

Modern lyric theme
I like the begin of this song, very classic and contemporary at the same time. It seems fast a modern theme from an "opera". Your voice is clean and strong, the violin in the background is very well played. This an interesting piece of a kind of new drama, a melodic drama for a tv- fiction, or a romantic film. One of your best songs listened here.

Worth A Listen - You Will Listen Again
WOW! Cathy has a real nice voice. She can take charge of the complex arrangement. I just wish I could understand French. But as a songwriter, I can feel the tone and match it to the music. She does that well. I like the arrangement. But the only thing I think I would change is the length of the song. It is kinda long, but I can't really give a positive review because I do not understand the words. But I can feel the music. It's real nice.

Powerful
Atmospheric song. Orchestration is very subtle and builds beautifully several times in the song, returning to wonderful solo violin backing, with a simple, moody drum track. Vocals are incredible. Such a pure voice. A real treat for the ears. Bravo.
