About Chaotic Serenity
I started on violin at 6 and studied classically until I was 18. Started playing piano by ear at 11. Sang with the St. Luke's Boys Choir for 2 years. I was picked as 1 of 4 boys to participate in a performance of the Venus and Adonis Opera. Was a member of our Jr. High and Sr. High school orchestra (violin), the Southeast Youth Symphony Orchestra (violin), the All City Orchestra (violin), Long Beach City College Symphony and Chamber Orchestra (violin), and the University of Alaska, Fairbanks Symphony and Chamber Orchestra. For a short time in 1989, I was the keyboardist in a Journey cover-band called Reflection.
I am currently composing/recording my own tracks, studying/learning what I can about producing professional sounding tracks that utilizes components of all music genres and the instrumentation primarily used in each genre. Im also trying to self-learn how to use some of the Industry-standard DAW's. All of my music is written as instrumental-only but always open to collaboration with ANY musician with ability. I dislike the use of genre "labels" because I feel that using "labels" sets an expectation to the listener. I feel the same about the use of lyrics in most cases. (I mean no offense to any poets, lyricists, writers out there... so please don't take offense :) ) I write instrumentals because whatever feelings or emotions I may be experiencing at that time, is conveyed in the song. When John Carpenter wrote the theme for Halloween, he didn't stop and tell you that you need to be scared when the music starts. You feel it. The music says "HOLY CRAP... somethings going to happen"
If I had to try and describe what kind of music I write, I would probably say 'light rock', 'ambient', there is classical and baroque influences in a number of songs, progressive, experimental, trance, electronica, house, new age,'other','space' music,'mood'music, or soundscape
If I had to make a decision about what I really wanted to do/accomplish in music, it would be to become a published composer/producer of movie soundtracks and to get to the talent/experience/creativity level of Hans Zimmer, who inspires me the most, musically and thru his music is teaching me emotional power of music.
Anyway please feel free to listen to a song or 2 or all. I hope you like hearing it as much as I enjoy writing it. but if you don't, please feel free to express your criticism of it. Its all a part of the learning process.
