About Charles The Artist
Music For Life: Singer, Songwriter, Musician, Producer Charles born in Macon, Georgia, the fourth of eight children of Herbert and the late Evangelist Bessie Jones; the grandson of two Baptist Ministers. Charles was reared from humble beginnings; being raised in the Church of God in Christ, he was taught an early age by his mother and father to always pray, stay humble, dedicated, committed, and to put his faith and trust in God.
At the age of four, Charles along with his sisters, made his first debut singing, “Jesus Is My Rock” on an Easter program at Jackson Temple Deliverance Church at the River Bottom which is now called the Riverwalk located in Macon, Georgia. After singing his debut, Charles’ uncle the late James Strong, Jr. realized his unique gifts and abilities and began encouraging him and as well as teaching him to pursue a career in music. His uncle taught him to pick the guitar. After Charles mastered picking the guitar, he taught himself to play the piano, harmonica, and the drums.
After realizing the gifts Charles has, his parents purchased instruments to fulfill the musical desires he had. Hebert, being a self-employed truck driver, was given a piano from one his shippers for Charles to play.
Charles received his education in the Bibb County Public School System; he attended Duresville Elementary, Peter G. Appling Middle, and Dudley Hughes High School. Charles was always active and outgoing in school-participating in talent shows and singing at events: he was very athletic as well-playing football and wrestling. During high school, Charles formed his first group called “Charles Jones and the Go Go’s”. After high school, he played with several bands; the “Eastside Express”, “Mission Impossible”, and “Powerhouse” just to name a few.
One night “Mission Impossible Band” was traveling from a performance in Alabama; the van overturned and everybody was injured except Charles. He had his Bible in his hand, he realized at that moment that God spared his life for a divine purpose. He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and then recorded his first single entitled, "I Told Jesus", which topped the charts at number 3.
Charles made many local and national appearances. Some of these appearances included sharing the stage with such artist as BeBe and CeCe Winans, Andrae Crouch, the late great James Cleveland, the late great Isaac Douglas, Donnie McClurkin, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, performing on the Bobby Jones Gospel Show and the list goes on.
He began touring with the Gospel Fest in 1989 with Larry Howard’s Gospel Blues Band, which began in Atlanta, Georgia and ended in Chicago, Illinois. In 1990, Charles was one of the first to perform Christian Music at the “Macon Cherry Blossom Festival”, held annually in Macon, Georgia which has become a national event. In 1991, as founder and only artist of Conquest Records, Charles released his first album entitled “Traces of Heaven". All of the songs are original and were written, arranged and produced by him. In 1991, Dan Maley published an article in the Macon Telegraph about Charles. In 1993 and 1994, he was chosen to produce and arrange music for the play entitled, "Yes Lord This Is Homecoming" written by author and play writer, Willie Mae Smith, which was a local hit. He also wrote, performed, and arranged some of the music for this play. Charles performed at the Annual Foxie 100 Black Music Month Celebration in Sandy Beach Park, Lake Tobesofkee. In 1994, Charles was selected to be one of the judges for the Robins Air Force Base "Talent On Parade" finalist singing competition. Also in June of 1994, Charles was featured in the Studio 26 Publication "The Artist Connection" Volume 19. In 1995, he recorded the "Straight From The Heart" jingle for 13 WMAZ TV. In 1996, Charles sang at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia as well as the Georgia World Congress Center, Centennial Olympic Park, Six Flags Over Georgia and churches throughout the United States.
Due to an automobile accident, Charles had to end his tour but not his love for music. He continued to write and arrange music; while being unable to perform, he started Charles Jones Trucking in 1999 to continue his father’s legacy. Because music is his passion, in 2005, Charles developed a new record label called "ESTONE MUSIC". Recently he released the single "I'm Not Alone" and "Traces of Heaven" 20 year Anniversary Project. 2012 and 2013 has opened many doors for Charles; he was the guest soloist at Reverend Joseph Wheeler's CD Listening Tour, Greater New Hope Christian Assembly, Body Of Christ International, Tremont Temple Baptist Church for Minister Bobby L.
