Rather than give you a story written by somebody else, I thought it might be better to give you one straight from the horses mouth.

My name is Chelsie Smallman. I am 22 years old and I am a singer/songwriter.
I started singing at the age of 12 in my bedroom. I had a little karaoke machine with a tape recorder attached, and I used to record tapes of myself singing Shania Twain’s greatest hits. I never really believed I was any good, but I couldn’t deny the good feeling that singing gave me.

Then in 2007, I went on a trip to France with the primary school I was in, and the day we came back they were holding a summer fate; they had a mini competition “Pop Idol” and my mum had asked me why I didn’t audition. The answer was quite simple: I had auditioned every year for the past 3 years and I never got through. She proceeded to bug the teacher, offering to pay to let me sing and so, the choir teacher said yes. My mum paid £1, and suddenly, I was up on the field, microphone in hand, in front of 300 people. I had been listening to Rihanna’s “Unfaithful” religiously the entire time we went to France, and luckily, her CD was at hand in the DJ booth. Apparently, I was good enough. I won. I was ecstatic. And that, was the start of my long, ridiculously hard but worth it, journey…

Here are some facts about me…
– I am through and through a cat lover. I have two of my own, Vudu Doll and Rasco.
– I’m ridiculously afraid of sharks and clowns.
– I mainly sing country, but in the privacy of my own home, Tupac and Biggie Smalls often hit my stereo. (Where Brooklyn At, anyone?)
– I am always nervous before going on stage, although I’d love not to be, it keeps me grounded.
– I refuse to watch Horror movies, not because I’m scared (quite the opposite). There’s just already too much negative energy in the world.
– I hate hugs (GASP!) I know, I’ve tried not to… but no thank you. I show love in other ways.
– Behind the ‘resting bitch face’, I am however actually a nice person and I hate conflict.
– I like being alone a lot. For me, there’s never enough time in the day for anything.
– I despise texting. It’s just so much work, I’d much rather have a real life conversation over coffee.
