When I listened to the first seconds of Powder Monkey, my impression was to think the music was produced in a home studio with too less knowledge. Later on, I found out this was the "transistor radio" kinda intro and therefore was charming surprised by the clean production when the tune started for real. The energy is great, the vocals are top notch, which also can be said about the other instrumentalists. However, it would be even more fantastic if the 'plastic horns' were replaced by a real horn section. Although the digital samples are fine, the higher notes of the horns tell me it sounds like a keyboard. However, as a professional drummer, I can only say the groove is very funky, the song is very well written, and everything is played tight as hell! The tune reminds me of Paola Mendonça, another artist from Scandinavia. The vocalist is a very soulful guy, I really like his phrasing and timing a lot. Backing vocals are perfect. Although the song is pretty long, I never get bored. For me, that's a good sign the arrangement is well thought and invites you as the listener to stick till the end. Sweden isn't the country I immediately think of as a provider of Funk music, so it's a very pleasant surprise to stumble upon Chris Meijer and his funky tunes! Please keep on creating great music!

Nice start with the Funky distant guitar. Excellent Bass pickup that fell into a true Funk Groove. The breaks were clean and the drums hit the accents tight and on time while still maintaining that tight groove. The horn section work was well mixed and divided properly. The harmonies were grouped perfectly slipping occasionally into 4ths which gave another dimension to the vocals. Really appreciated that the Bass, Drums and Guitar, was a true, Funk Rhythm Section. This song has unending potential. It will do great in TV and Film, and if the industry had the intestinal fortitude to allow funk to come back in all its form, it would do great right now. Every aspect was executed wonderfully. This is not meant as a suggestion, advice or criticism. This is only personal to me. I would have like to have just a touch more volume. If you like Funk you're gonna love this tune by Chris Meijer! It has got a real cool Earth Wind And Fire groove to it, and a Great vocal track as well. But, that is what I've come to expect when a song has one of my favorites, "Duceman" working on it as well. I have to tell ya, I've listened to it at least 15 times and I still can't get enough! Great tune Chris, I give it a big 5 stars. I can't wait to hear more of your music, and I think all the other Funk-A-Dilish lovers will agree. So everybody slip on your dancing shoes, prepare to get Funky, and listen to this song.

Made me somehow wanting to move, while thinking about it, I almost felt asleep on the couch. Then I smiled and listened to this song again. Still smiling, it is really something good. Would love it hearing it in a club, getting down to it. Cant hear anything non-pleasant in it, smooth groove like it should be, ofc I just love that baseline.

Powder Monkey is a strictly Funk piece in the highest sense of the word. everything sounds in Funk style and even the singer has a Funk voice as I said everything recalls the Funk genre. personally it is not my favorite genre but I can give you a musical judgment that is certainly positive because all that there must be in a Funk piece in your piece is therefore complimented and continues. good job

Power Monkey is a very funky track with jazz elements that adds to it's pro quality, It's lively, uplifting and well produced. The vocal sound and arrangement fits. Well done, it was a joy to listen to. It's a great track!

Hey! yes! An authentic funk song !!! I like it... As I was listening, my body was moving alone, even though I was lying in my room .... I thought that nobody made music of this style, I'm happy, now I know that you do. The vocals and the choruses are amazing, in general, everything sounds good, the wind instruments sound good, without distortion and with good level, but the only thing that I did not like very much, has been the sound of the drums, it seems to me that It is heard with low volume level. The bass is not heard clearly and if I am not mistaken, it is recorded without a low frequency. It may be the sound that you like, my opinion is that the bass is like the soul for funk music and should highlight slightly on the other instruments and we must take into account that it is a melodic and rhythmic instrument at the same time, besides, the low frequencies of the bass and the bass drums, are the instruments that, in general in all the bands, produce more emotion to the people, because the low frequencies generate more palpable vibrations, and these are the ones that get to touch physically, therefore, if the drums were heard more (especially the snare and bass drum) and the bass was recorded or mixed with more low frequencies than average, this song would be much more emotional. I was drawn to this Euro-Funk style music track totally because of the fantastic and syncopated horn section.
