Cryptic Oath is a 4-piece metal band from Chicago. Members consist of Steve (vocals/guitar), Ryan (guitar/vocals), Jay (bass/vocals), and Phil (drums). They have been compared to bands such as Megadeth, Pantera, Carcass, and Slayer. There is a dueling guitar force that has intricate as well as melodic passages to create something for the hardcore and melodic fan alike. Some of the major influences from different people in the band are various and similar. Influences range from Death to Soilwork, from Megadeth to In Flames, from Jason Becker to Richard Christy, and from Van Halen to Ron Jarzombek. You won’t find a Brittany Spears influence in the music by Cryptic Oath. Cryptic Oath is unique in many ways. First off, there are guitar solos in many songs. Second of all, the drums are very diverse. Many of the beats and tempos change from song to song. Third, there are a variety of vocal styles used to create different effects with the music. There are clean, dirty, and growl-like vocals placed at certain points. Overall, Cryptic Oath is a force with which to be reckoned.
