The Usual Suspects
Song Reviews
Dave Harris - The Usual Suspects
The Usual Suspects by Dave Harris features some tasty guitar and piano work backing up nicely laid back vocals that were to me slightly reminiscent of Fairport Conventions Richard Thompson which is a never a bad thing ! A well structured song treading a well worn path of heartache, and treachery.

Good stuff
Good guitar work. The structure of the song reminds me of the Dewey Cox story's songs. The music is sound, but in my opinion it's over thought and complicated to listen to. I dig it though, I like the unusual non-cookie cutter style music we are often force fed.

Less than three minutes of good music
A fine ballad - echoes from the Seventees - with some appreciable vocal harmonizations and a pleasant acoustic guitar. To be played and sung on the beach at night by the fire. Well done, Dave!

The Usual Sitcom Theme Song or the Next Big Hit?
While this song, The Usual Suspects, by Steve Jones & Dave Harris, is definitely a great, catchy tune, I would hope that the rest of the album does not include the same attempt to commercialize. That isn't an insult by any means. I myself have had to learn to incorporate more commercially appropriate songs on my albums because dark and slow, brooding songs just don't have a place on today's popular radio stations. I see this song as a great popular sitcom or series opening theme song. I would just hate to see you two become one hit wonders like they did to so many other great artists as the result of overmediated attention. Definitely a succesfull achievement for what you two were aiming for. Nice job. -Virginia VMusic @Virginia_Now Virginia™.com

review of The Usual Suspects
This is a nice easy listening story of betrayal. A nice track with a simple yet pleasing sound, nothing new but at the same time a good melody, nicely played, well sang and nicely mixed. The words to the track are interesting and well written. The hook of the melody in the chorus kicks in after just a few seconds after the intro. I'd like to have heard maybe a bit more grunt on the lyrics maybe...possibly too clean for my liking. Good track though and I'd like to hear others from you.

Sad Story Of Betrayal
Dave Harris brings in a collaboration with co-writer Steve Jones - this time with a sad story of a relationship's betrayal. The story is compelling. There's a hint of country in the styling so it could be described as Country Rock. The story starts in the verse and builds to the chorus stating the words "Line up the usual suspects, ... you're getting busted this time. What I didn't like was the chorus deals with catching her accomplice in this, instead of talking about the heartache of her betrayal, or the hurt of losing the trust in the relationship. But even with that, I enjoyed the song and they guys delivered it with conviction. Dave has a nice voice and the instrumentalists are all proficient. Good work guys!

who is keyser soze...
David Harris brings us The Usual Suspects... a throwback time to the mid seventies when Billy Joel's Piano Man was hitting the charts. I use this comparison because of the flavor of the material as well as the band size and structure. It would be a similar type of orchestration in the studio I could imagine. The song itself has a lot of qualities but its length isn't one of them and I wish the song had a few more bars to it. The middle piano section left me wanting but the part that needed retakes was the vocal... the intensity through the different words and phrases is inconsistent throughout and doesn't properly build up with the rest of the band. Standing a foot further from the mic and singing like you are on a theater stage makes for a more consistent vocal level for the song and allows the track to sit better in the mix.

The Usual Suspects.
Sad testimony with the shoe now the woman's foot in this song. I have never heard it from the guy's point of view. Nice storytelling song lyrics, the proof of another betrayal...like the drinks that are obviously a man's drink or a ladies in the receipts found in the wallet. Yes, they always leave evidence of their betrayal, must be some kind of game. But the Cheaters only betray themselves in reality. Calls to mind the songs of Gareth Williams. I enjoyed the instrumental too. You have a unique vocal talent that transcends all musical genres. Thanks for sharing.

Usual Suspects Rocks
Very nicely written song. Very good melody and lyrical structure and rock style. Has a nice hook....line up the Usual Suspects....really enjoyed listening. The guitar part rings an echo of Eric Clapton at times...especially towards the end. The length is perfect and fits the plot of the song. I wish you well with this song...it is easy to remember and sticks to ya when you hear it a couple of times. Take care and Peace to you!! ANM

Unusual Suspects
This is different kind of Song. Sounds a little like a Kenny Rogers Country song. I think it's a mellow and the arrangement are professionally done. The Guitar has a great sound and I really love the ending with the Solo leading out of the production. Very nice wonderful job. Best of luck to you for all your efforts.

The Usual Suspects
Dave Harris & The Usual Suspects : There are two things I find odd about the Great List. One, the. I’m not going to get into it—the nature of the Canon is what it is and will change slowly over time. I get that. Two, I’m a dumb Yankee and finding the odd record that only made it in the sitting near the top of the Great List always catches me off guard. It was weird and exhilarating to find Massive Attack in the Top 100. On the flip side, there are also two records in the Top 100. Sometimes the giveth. Sometimes the UK shouldn’t have. What’s the point? How about a hip hop record from the UK, sitting at no. 189—The Streets’ Original Pirate Material This is weird and exhilarating, Klinger. A hip-hop record, from the UK that got almost no play in America, camped out in the Top 200. I’m ecstatic. Back in my younger days I was a bit of an obscurest wanker and snapped this record up when it hit stateside in the fall of 2002. I was impressed by the East Coast hip-hop filtered through the driving garage beats. Mike Skinner, the man behind the moniker, had a way with words, painting vignettes of violence and humor from across the pond, offering a quick link to a world nearly identical to mine. I still enjoy the record. It doesn’t have nearly the same pull it did a decade ago, but then neither do I. What do you think? Are you going to be a stand up geezer or are we going to get paralytic and fight?
