So, that was 2020, was it?
I don’t know about you but I began the year in fine form; looking forward to Olympics and football championships, and all that kind of excitement.
I knew I was turning 60 at the end of June and had already mixed and mastered 16 of my favourite self-penned songs. So, I knew, with lockdown, I had plenty of studio time to complete the next album, - this one: “Goes Without Saying”.
Again 16 tracks, 15 new songs by me but one cover by Britain’s greatest blues singer, Roger Chapman. We’d recorded a version of “The Cat And The Rat” and I managed to get a copy to him to see if it would be ok to use on the album. A day or two later, he got back to me and said, “This is ok, mate. Not as intense as Family were but they were a really intense band!” High praise indeed from a man I’ve been a fan of since about 10 years old.
Thus equipped, I set about mastering the album. Some rockers, some ballads, some songs from long ago that I only had a line or two of. Judge for yourself.
