Love on the Run-David Karl Roberts

Someone recently asked me about my process - where do the songs come from. So to try to explain "Love on The Run" ...it came from a song snippet I was working on which started out being called Save the Day ...which is the lead in verse to the song, but Love on the Run really came from seeing Jason Isbell live in early October. One of his songs has the line - Love on the Run which got me thinking...what could that mean... does it mean like Bonny and Clyde on the run, or could it mean when things get so busy with day to day life that you are grabbing bits whenever you can, or is it when you are chasing away a really good thing. And so with a stream of consciousness rambling, a few verses along those themes started happening. Then of course comes the part where you always get stuck and try to figure out how to make the song into a story or bring it full circle... so throw in a little autobiographical content to put some real people into the theme and a little fiction to make it more interesting than real life, a little nod to CSNY,and something resembling a song finally appears. Sometimes they come in a day, but often they develop over several weeks or sometimes longer. Once the base is written, then I start layering tracks until it starts to have a feel or texture I like. Sometimes songs start acoustic but may end up very electric. No right or wrong way, and sometimes they never really feel finished and sometimes they feel like they write themselves.
