This has a ZZ Top vibe. I like your pro Texas lyrics. It's nice to hear that Texas pride come out in your lyrics. I don't hear too many songs today that talk about where they live. Most just talk about love, hate, drugs or violence.

A cool rock song !

Well, it´s not always easy to review songs, but this guy is one of the honest ones here and really ask for an honest review. So here we go; In between this really bad mix there is a really cool rock song. Get your band together and record in a studio to get that organic natural sound. Get a producer to guide you through the labyrint of effects etc. that is available (it´s to much these days if you ask me) and "Voila" you have a killer rock song with a great sound and where you actually can hear everything thats going on. I can see from the pics that you have a great guitar available. Let it play with the natural great sound that lives in that guitar through a cranked up tube amp. There is however one thing that stands out in this song. I really like the strong vocal. So get the rest in place to back that up and you can kick ass with this song on any stage. Stay cool and rock on ! All the best to ya -Kris

Well I have to say this song is well written. It's cool, fun and has a nice hook to it! The things I hear with the song that are unflattering are the fake drums but I assume that is not part of your budget. The next thing that bothers me is the mix but I'm going to say that you probably have a non existent budget and recorded this at home. So what's wrong with the song as a piece of written and performed work. Not much to be honest. In my opinion you get the idea of what a good song and even a hit song require. You made a song with the right production could be a serious hit! If Toby Keith sang this song it would be a smash. I can hear it as a Big and Rich song as well. Personally the things wrong with the song are all production and nothing to do with skill. You should be very proud of your work and I hope you write some more. I wish I could record you at my studio and make this song a huge anthem because I can hear it in my head how you wanted it to sound and how bad ass this song would be with the right amount of skill behind a board with a great producer. Your song is top notch, you just need someone that can record what you wrote and make it sound like the hit it can be.

Hey David, quite a catchy tune that you have produced with interesting lyrics and an equally good melody. As a sound engineer, I found that the drum track was the only real downer on this song. There are a number of really good drum companion software available to make this tune really pop. I personally use EZDrummer for a lot of my recordings and am more that satisfied with the results.

Driving Groove

The lyrics of Texas Way are way cool! I like the way this song is sung as well. It's a driving song and by that I mean the beat of the song as well as driving in my car and listening to it. The sound separation is very good as you can distinguish where the instruments are in the mix, although I feel that the level on the drums could have been just a bit louder to maintain the driving groove you have going on the song. I know it can be difficult to maintain good volume levels and sound separation on drum drops or drum machines. Sometimes recording drums on two different tracks can give you a better sound on drums and percussion. Overall you've done a great job on this song! Best of luck in all your endeavors.

"Mac Sheen"

Helpful

"David Richardson" has sent me a request to review his song "Texas Way". Sometimes, I will find out later that the artist never sent a request to be reviewed and that Number One Music has sent out an algorithm. So here's my honest review. Foremost, find a real drummer. I'm having a hard time figuring out if you want the listener to focus on guitar or vocals? When the electric rhythm guitar and vocals come in, the bass guitar and the drummer, "Mac Sheen" become lost in the mix. I'm thinking your tracks were tracked one at a time and you were the only musician? FYI, I wrote the last sentence before I went to your page to check out your other tunes and bio.

One of the things I enjoy most about Number One Music artists is the newfound ability to hear music from around the world by singers who I'd never have the chance to listen to otherwise. That, in itself, is a great thing. Here, with this song categorized as Classic Rock and Techno... I'm totally NOT getting that combination - but I do enjoy this song and the clever lyrics. Harmonies are iffy, but the guitars rock! Love it.

This is not a bad song but I don't like the electronic treatment on the vocals. It sounds too weird. Also, the song is too long. People have short attention spans and I was left wondering "when is it gonna end?". Good guitar playing but too much distortion on the guitars. If you want to get somewhere in the music industry you have to make your music as appealing to as many people as possible and long songs with heavy guitars don't have broad appeal.

There are numerous free vst instruments online that would give you better drum sounds. If you keep it as is, I wouldn't start the song with 4 beats of nothing but it. Guitar, on the other hand sounds awesome. The riff is entertaining. Vocals are also very good. It might be a good idea to add just a tad of treble to it though so that it comes out of the mix a little more. Once everything is there, the drum is less disturbing, though it could gain from a few more fill-ins, for instance at the end of the solo. Back vocals are great! Lyrics and delivery are awesome, I truly dig the chorus, it has a good hook and my head is bobbing, so kudos on that! You remind me a bit of an early "Ugly Kid Joe" in America's Least Wanted. I'd recommend you to listen to that album and analyse the sound of it and how each instruments and vocals come out of the mix. There is definitely potential here!
