Ok, traditional country music is not really known as innovative, and there are countless songs that sound more or less the same. Of course this is not only valid for traditional country music, but I always think that in this genre the range of variation is particularly small. Anyway, I didn't know the original and just listened to your recording without any prejudice. What I hear is very well produced, played without any mistakes and carefully arranged. The steel guitar seems a bit hesitant, a bit cautious or gingerly. The lead voice is a bit laid back in some moments. But all in all your recording sounds good and fresh. Well done.

Don, you did pretty good on this classic song. Grew up listening to Mel, Charlie, George, Buck, Johnny, etc. so when I hear the this song it brings back strong memories. My former producer John Riggs, Mel cut his songs, first let me start by, loving that steel guitar cry out, your vocals are smooth, lead guitar, bass, drums, background vocals, are all in sync, feels like I am back in the 70"s again. Well Don, You've done another great country song. It just happens that my band backed up Mel at a couple of shows, so we got to talk with him quite a bit. He recorded this song 3 times before it finally took off. You have made a couple of changes in this song that are interesting. I like them and would never have thought of doing that myself. I've always said there is an art to simplicity. Ernest Tubb proved that over and over again. You have accomplished it here also. Sometimes a song is so good it doesn't need much else but the words and some accompaniment. This is an example and you did it nicely. Congratulations on a great recording.
