Dyman Mind is a reggae-dancehall artist, songwriter, studio engineer, producer; former radio disc jock and freelance journalist. Known for his versatility, Dyman Mind has the unique skill to combine lyrics and melodies that takes listeners on a blissful journey able to visually capture the essence of the sound, lyrical theme, and emotion regardless of the musical genre or style. Much like some of the greats, Dyman has an undying passion and respect for music, an artist whose goals are to consistently make a valuable contribution to the rich history of the reggae and dancehall music.
Originating from the Waterhouse-Olympic Gardens vicinity of Kingston, Jamaica, Dyman grew up inspired by some of the great artists that lived in the surrounding communities. Great pioneers such as U-Roy, Admiral Bailey, Josey Wales, General Trees, Ninja Man, Beenie Man, King Jammy's, and Sturgrav were only a few of the familiar faces and institutions that were from the area. Developing a love for music at a very early age, he would often save his lunch money in order to purchase cassettes of the latest stage shows and sound clashes. Moved by the execution of words, delivered energy, overall performances—his passion and love for music became real. Memorizing numerous most of Professor Nuts’ songs, Dyman would perform them to family on his summer visits outside of Kingston.
Later migrating to the United States in 1992, Dyman became consumed with the new sounds that emerged from Jamaica,as well as his introduction to Hip Hop, Soul and R&B. The lyrical creativity,delivery and melodies of artists such as: Buju Banton, Spragga Benz, Bounty Killer, Baby Wayne, Wayne Wonder, Sanchez, Born Jamericans, Heavy D, Nas, Tupac, Wu Tang Clan, Jodeci, Mary J Blige, and others. Loving the sound he was hearing, Dyman became curious and wanted to see what it was like to create an original song of his own. Thus the journey began.
After graduating high school, he became a founding member of the group (expired link), which later became Rebel Flex. He would remain with the group until the end of 2000, becoming a solo artist from that point on. Over the years, Dyman has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the industry. He opened up for Wayne Wonder, Lady G, Red Rat, Hawkeye, Crissy D, Frisco Kid, Goofy, Frankie Sly, Baby Cham, Notch and Buju Banton. He also performed at the 2000 staging of Mr. Caribbean USA at the Apollo Theater; the West Indies Day Parade in Brooklyn, New York; and Sting 2003 in Hartford, CT—where he shared the stage with notable reggae icons like Beenie Man, Wayne Wonder, Tanto Metro and Devonte, Baby Cham, Lexxus, Anthony B, Mad Cobra, Frankie Paul, Sanchez, Johnny Osbourne, Sammy Dread, Soca stars Bunji Garlin and Rupee.
His journey took him to other areas of music where he wrote for CT entertainment magazines, played music in clubs and was also a radio DJ on 107.7 FM; “The Reggae Showcase”—which he hosted on Central Connecticut State University’s campus radio station. This program would last for more than a decade, gaining a reputable name in clubs, house parties, and many interviewed artists that would pass through the clutches of the ‘disc jockey’ that simply knew music. In later years, Dyman’s program, “Reggae Showcase”would shift its success to greater opportunities as it joined WENXRADIO—a premier internet radio station. The program had its last run in mid 2013.
Dyman is also a versatile songwriter. In addition to penning exceptional songs for himself, he has also co-written on numerous songs with well-known international reggae artist, Notch. These songs include: Fly Away, Which Gal Wi Hear Sey, Another Catch (Match), Tek your mind off me (La Costra Nostra riddim - Ward 21), among others to be released in the near future.
Dyman’s musical gift doesn’t stand only to writing and recording music music, he is also a producer and recording engineer. Some of his production/engineering credits includes: Look Before You Walk featuring himself, Mr. Secret and Blexx; an underground hit in 2006, having been featured on several hip-hop and dancehall mixtapes. He also produced and appeared on, Forever - Dancehall remix (2009) featuring Blexx and Young Vengeance; another underground hit that was featured on several mixtapes. As one half of the production team, Dygon Productions; credits includes: Juggler remix(2012), Bed of Roses (2014) and Rub-A-Dub Style(2015)—all performed by Owen Knibbs; Freedom by Phorein and Mama (life) by Don Minott (2015) - co-produced with I-Field Josephs of Paco Records.
Although his journey has taken him into the realms of production and artist development, Dyman stayed focus on his career as a performing artist. Professionally, Dyman has released a slew of solid songs that have and will stand the test of time. His earlier release includes Rough Cut Productions produced “Bed Pop Dung When WiUnda Di Sens (2002)” and You si mi (2002). More recent songs includes - Mama Raised a Champion (Goldmind Productions), I Could Neva (Goldmind Productions), Standoff featuring Young Vengance (Goldmind Productions), Hold Your Heads up High (Magician Records), No Worries – Psyco Productionz, and Take You There (Take You to a Place) Rough Cut Sounds. All songs have the potential to become one of your favorite song.
Currently in the studio, as expected, Dyman is writing, recording and producing new material that are sure to be inspirational, powerfully eloquent, and realistic; digging deep into the hearts of its listeners. Dyman is looking forward to displaying his musical growth in all areas.
