About Earth Hall
Earth Hall is an American alternative rock band formed in Lafayette LA in 1997. Carey Jaccuzzo (vox and guitars), David Mitchell (bass), and Cory Hulin (drums) spent an entire year writing, rehearsing, and recording the songs for the first 3 EP's in a rehearsal space that Hulin owned in Duson, LA.
Earth Hall played its first show on June 12, 1998 at The Big Easy in Monroe, LA.
Earth Hall shows could be 3 hours or more at some venues. The band never had a cover song on any setlist in its incarnation.
Although, the band did occassionally slip in a few verses of the Elvis Presley version of "Always on my mind".
Earth Hall recorded 3 EP's in 1998. 2 of which were released (Mantle/American Nothing). The 3rd (Love!?!?) was never released.
2002's"FILTERS" was recorded at Studio 61 in Clarksdale MS. This is the first time the band recorded as a 4 piece. Adding guitarist BJ Russell and drummer Eric Fowler to the mix expanded the band's live shows. Jaccuzzo said in 2002, "It really changed everything. Since the beginning, I was responsible for all the guitars, vocals & lyrics. There were limitations in a live setting. Now I can focus on rhythm and my vocals. It was hard early on trying to recreate what we did in the recordings. It's always been tough for me to trust a 2nd guitarist in this band. But with BJ, he just immediately fit right in. Amazing musician!
Returning as a 3-piece, Jaccuzzo, Hulin, and Mitchell recorded their next project, titled "3", at Civello Studios in Baton Rouge, LA in 2003. This project marked the first time the band recorded in a studio that was not their own. After 3 days, the band emerged with 3 new songs. "Walk Beneath the Rest", "Giant", & "Tasteless."
In 2005 Jaccuzzo said,
"The sound of this record and the feel of the band is much more aggressive, more abrasive but with some melodic glue stuck in the cracks. This is our most collaborative effort to date. The 3 of us locked up in the studio for a weekend. This is what that sounds like to me. It's not foreign to us. We've been working like this for years. The three of us facing each other in a room worked then and it works now. That's what it comes down to. It's the essence of being in a band. Being in a room with my best friends and our instruments writing songs, That's the best part. Everything else is just noise."
