Dear fans, I pulled into the VCCA today for a writing residency. I unloaded everything into the composers studio, and moved into the Commune style hall. I'll share photos and other tidbits with you over the next 16 days. I'm ecstatic!

Hello All,
I'm feeling gratitude and excitement these days. I recently was awarded a Fellowship to the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. The end of winter, February and March, I will be taking a writing retreat to work on two projects; one in support of Harry Kollatz's newest work, a novel in the genre of historical fiction. He developed a fantastic storyline based in Scotts Addition, Richmond, Va. Harry is a music lover, and he's captured the "sounds " of the band of his main character so richly, I offered to bring it to life. The other project is to take my many works in progress, and finish arranging, editing, etc...about 25 songs. This has been a trying year for me, and my muse has never let me down when I ask help expressing the difficult feelings...That's when my songs are gifted..they fall from the sky, wrapped in melodies and tucked into chords and rhythms that in the process, help me heal from life's difficult times. Meanwhile, I'm sending a few more songs for the Winter, and New Year. Merry Christmas, and a Healthy New Year!!

truth. These are lyrics to a song I wrote back in the late 1980's. I have found that I often need to hear the message in songs that I write. I do not know the source of inspiration, but then again, maybe I do. It's just that there's no word or name big enough to define the energy. I appreciate that so many people are hearing the music I produce. This expression has meaning, and purpose. Artists are given the task of bringing emotion to humanity. All of us are burdened by experiences that are difficult to understand, only to find that in the end, the purpose was to enrich our capacity to empathize, and love.
I am reconciling the sudden loss of my father, who was 86 years old, and was diagnosed with stage 4 liver cancer - two days before he died. I'm dreaming music. This is how I process life. I began sketching songs that speak to "looking back" a year ago. I expect there's something in the lyrics that will reveal how to better live with the loss. Until then, peace.

I've been writing and performing all of my life; it's my gift to give. Let's all keep making music - the world needs us.
