Born on the gritty streets of NYC, ej has seen his share of trials and tribulations... um, what the HELL?!? Ok. Here is the truth. I grew up in Teaneck, NJ. Birth place of such greats as the Isley Brothers and DMX, as well as the temporary home of the late great Notorious (expired link). Teaneck was a very cool place to grow up. Not just because of it being so close to NYC, but also because it gave me a chance to have a circle of friends so much more diverse than I would have imagined. I never really knew racism until I left there. My folks told me that they picked Teaneck because of how well it was integrated and because they wanted me and my brother to feel comfortable (for those that don't know me, my mom is African-American and my step dad is white. Because I can't remember a time when he wasn't in my life, This is probably the only time you'll EVER hear me call him my step dad. so as far as I'm concerned, he's the real deal.) After leaving Teaneck I realized that the mindset that I had grown up with didn't always apply to the outside world.
