Walter Hughes
Guitar TechnicianGuitaristMandolinistVocalist
Walter Hughes showed an aptitude for music at an early age, playing nursery rhymes on a Cracker Barrel harmonica and spending hours at the family piano as soon as he could crawl up on the bench. Early influences came from his big brother Eric’s collection of Beatles records and the oldies station their mother would listen to in the car. At age 9, his brother Nathan introduced Walter to bluegrass, and he soon started banjo and mandolin lessons. At 13, a friend gave Walter a Led Zeppelin mix tape, and so began Walter’s obsession with guitars.
Every once in a while, Walter performs intimate, low-key solo acoustic shows, but he is truly at home as an electric guitarist with a full band. Walter Hughes has performed, composed, recorded and toured with countless acts, but nothing comes more naturally to him than making music with his own flesh and blood. Walter joined the Eric Hughes Band in 2012 and is credited for the majority of guitar tracks on the albums “Drink Up” and “Meet Me In Memphis,” as well as backing vocals, lap steel and mandolin.
Walter Hughes propels the music of the Eric Hughes Band to another level. Whether it's warm, acoustic picking or searing electric lead guitar, Walter helps define the traditional-yet-unique sound that the Eric Hughes Band has become known for.
