Biography
An innovative keyboardist, teacher, producer, composer and arranger from Axton Va., Fabian Lance has performed extensively in the orchestra pit, stage and studio.
Fabian Lance was born in Washington (expired link). on February 2, 1964 and now lives in Chesterfield Va. He has been playing piano since the age of 11. Lance started earning extra money utilizing his gift by playing in a few local churches around town by the age of 13.
In 1982-1987, Fabian Lance studied at Virginia Union University School of Music, where he majored in Jazz Composition and Music Business. In 1985, Fabian Lance became the keyboardist for the local James Cleveland “Gospel Music Workshop of America” chapter in Richmond Va. assisting local and national clinicians in presenting their original music.
In 1996, Fabian Lance became the session keyboardist for the syndicated television show Living Single and in 2002, the animated cartoon show called Little Bill.
He toured with the European musical production called Sister Act I and II in 1997-1998. Lance produced along with Cool and the Gangs former producer Jim Bonnifond, Joye B. Moore’s national debuted release (1999) Contemporary Gospel CD called Project Butterfly. In 2003 Lance produced and Executive produced Strings in the Night Cd with the incomparable Anthony B. Ingram that got some national notoriety.
In 2008, Fabian Lance become the keyboardist for Clarence Burke of the former “Stairsteps” playing various club dates such as the “Sugar Bar” in New York.
In August 2010, Fabian Lance toured and performed with Ronny Jordan on the Luanda International Jazz Festival in South Africa. He also did keyboard duties with Ronny Jordan at the Clifford Brown Jazz Festival in 2011 and the Blue Note in Tokyo Japan in 2012. He has performed in touring productions of The Wiz and Eubie and has recorded with McFadden & Whitehead, Dr. Odell Hobbs, Plunky Branch, James “Saxmo” Gates and many others. Fabian Lance and friend of 33 years Carl Lester El are the original and founding members of the local as well as national recognized Smooth Jazz and Super R&B variety group called “FRENS”. Fabian Lance is a sought after piano instructor who has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Virginia Union University. He currently holds the Minister of Music position at First Union Baptist Church at Southside Richmond location. Lance currently is seeking his Masters degree in Jazz Studies at North Carolina Central University this fall 2012. Lance has just recently formed his own Trio that pays tribute to past and future Jazz Giants such as Phineas Newborn jr., Michele Petrucciani, George Duke, Phillip Saisse and Jeff Lorber just to name a few.
