Curriculum of Francesco D'Auria

Drummer-percussionist-composer, Francesco D'Auria was born in Mariano Comense (Como) in 1957.
He began his musical studies in the jazz schools of the Milan area attending drum courses with Enrico Lucchini (Capolinea), Giancarlo Pillot and Carlo Sola (Nuova Milano Musica).
Later he was a pupil of Roger Robertson and participated in internships with Elvin Jones (Ravenna Jazz) and Paul Motian (Umbria Jazz)
He has collaborated with several musicians, including Paolo Fresu, Gianluigi Trovesi, Tony Scott, Garrison Fewell, Bob Muver, Danny Gottlieb, Uri Caine, Furio Di Castri, Donovan Mixon, Mario Arcari, Gabriele Mirabassi, Michel Godard, Attilio Zanchi, Gunter Sommer, Bebo Ferra, Andrea Dulbecco, Conny Bauer, Uwe Kropinski, Marco Ricci, Eleonora D'Ettole, Tamara Obrovac, Luca Gusella, Tiziana Ghiglioni, Roberto Martinelli... participating in important festivals in Italy (Umbria Jazz, Clusone Jazz, Monza, Como) and abroad (Europa Jazz Festival du Mans, Lyon, Paris, Berlin, Leipzig, Dresden, Stuttgart, Tel Aviv, Croatia, Switzerland, Slovenia, Romania, Japan, Mexico, Guatemala).
In 1985 he began a long collaboration with Gunter Sommer, participating in concerts and tours in Europe.
He has participated in several performances also in the field of contemporary music and in 1988 with the group "Naqqara" he won the International Competition of Stresa and the national one for percussionists of Bovino (Bari).
In 1991 he completed his classical studies graduating in Percussion Instruments at the "Giuseppe Verdi" Conservatory in Milan (detached section of Como) studying with the masters F. Campioni, M. Ben Omar, W. Morelli and G. Sciuto.
From 1990 to 1993 he attended the Four-Year Course of Music Therapy in Assisi.
In 1992 and 1994 he collaborated with the orchestras of the "Pomeriggi Musicali" of Milan, in 1994 he played in the Rhythmic and Symphonic Orchestra of Rai Radio Televisione Italiana, also participating in some television productions.
In 1995 he went to the United States where he studied with Skip Hadden at the "BERKLEE COLLEGE OF MUSIC" in Boston.
In 1996 he collaborated with the Civic Wind Orchestra of the Municipality of Milan.
In 2000 he began a long collaboration with the quartet of Gabriele Mirabassi.
In 2001 he collaborated with the Musica d'Oggi Association of Milan and with the Roma Sinfonietta.
In 2001 he graduated in Jazz Music at the Conservatory "A. Boito" of Parma studying with the masters (expired link) P Leveratto and (expired link) Castri.
In 2004 he began collaborating with Michel Godard playing with different formations.
In 2005 he obtained the qualification classes AI77, A031 and A032 at the Conservatory of Music "Giuseppe Verdi" in Como.
In 2007 he began his duo collaboration with Beppe Caruso.
In 2009 he was invited to present his music at the Dresden Drum Festival and on this occasion he played in a trio with Danny Gottlieb and Gunter Sommer.
In 2010 he began the new musical project in trio with Michel Godard and Roberto Martinelli.
Parallel to the concert activity he dedicates himself to teaching activities addressing the problems of music teaching in different contexts. He has deepened courses aimed at musical practice by conducting stages and workshops in various academicand extra-scholastic fields, from 2004 to 2016 he was a teacher of the chair of percussion strumenti at the Comprehensive Institutes of Cadorago and Centrò city of Como.
From 2010 to 2015 he was professor of jazz drumsat the Conservatories of Brescia, Mantua and Como.
Since 2016 he holds the chair of Jazz Drums and Percussion at the"(expired link) Conservatoryin Milan
He continues his concert activity in Italy and abroad, with stable groups such as D'Auria-Caruso duo, with Baby Günter Sommer, Three spirits trio,Percussion Staff, Be Little trio, Michel Godard Duo and trio,in duo with Tino Tracanna and in Lunatics 4T, with Roberto Cecchetto, Umberto Petrin and as session man.
