Old Song, New Feel

Helpful

I really like the distinct bluesy feel to this old classic cover. The musicianship is fantastic and the arrangement is well produced. Harmonies are well done and very fluid. I think the build-up could be more pronounced by holding the harmonica or lead guitar until the second verse or even chorus.

MAN OF CONSTANT SORROW - REVIEW

Helpful

I first heard the Dylan version of this track and it became the first song I ever performed...having said that this song raises it's head very ten years or so with an even more compelling version, most notably from the film ' O Brother Where Art Thou?' in which the most traditional version is presented.. This version of the track follows in that rootsy vien, and the tune is expanded with lyrics which might possibly be the full set of verses as originally sung or a set of new lyrics expanding on the current theme..either way it is done with traditional orchestration as one may find in the Kentucky backwoods and the banjo and blues harp lend an authentic air to the song. The playing is restrained but precise with intervening instrumental lines properly arranged around the cadential vocal with the traditional harmony in Fifths sung in the appropriate places. This is a very tidy version of tjhe song and any true believer would not find this offensive at all but rather an honorable little homage to the traditional bluegrass composers and musicians responsible for this fantastic song. Great work fellas.
