In Nomine takes its name from the text "in nomine Domini", set by John Taverner (1490-1545) in the Benedictus of his Mass, Gloria tibi trinitas. The mass movement inspired many of Taverner's colleagues.
This In Nomine departs from the traditional cantus (notes from a sustained part of the original mass) and travels to other voices. This composition won first prize in the 1989 competition of new music for viola da gamba. This recording is from The New York Consort of Viols CD entitled Illicita Cosa by the Musical Heritage Society.
I hope you enjoy it.
