Freefall to Freedom the story to the song
We had a great gig in Hamilton as part of the Rocktober concert playing along such talented bands as the Ellerly Daines Trio, fantastic. You see a short clip of the song that gave our band its name: Freefall to Freedom. https://youtu.be/JGnUlaGQzPc
Every song has a story to tell, so this one was written after our house was destroyed by an earthquake and we decided cut all strings and move out of the earthquake zones. Leaving friends behind was not easy, so the song is about a mix of sadness, uncertainty and excitement that comes with a move and starting something new. On the road up north. Here the lyrics:
Freefall to Freedom
Hanging in a safety net strings are holding and connect
To people, places, work and play, predictable - `til yesterday
Shattered earth, shattered life, snapping strings leaves fear to strive
The city’s gone, the rubbles to stay, uncertainty - since yesterday
Uncertainty - since yesterday
Freefall, freefall, freefall to freedom
Cutting loose a few more strings, taking memories, selling things
Leaving the place you know behind, relationships are redefined
Feeling stripped right to the bone, vulnerable and alone
Relying now on what’s inside, awakening senses to survive
Awakening senses to survive
Sad to leave, keen to move, feeling light, right in the groove
White canvas waiting to be filled; new strings are going to be built
Looking far, looking up, sipping from a coffee cup
Freefall from old to new, heading past Putaruru
Heading past Putaruru
