Bas Vossen
Born in 1966 Bas attended Woodstock as one of the youngest performers. He's known for rolling superb baselines throughout his career. Also teaching in private and in a music school: bass, guitar, drums, percussion. Bas studied with Walter Latupeirissa (Snowy White, Walter Trout, Dana Fuchs etc) Jan Janssen (Point Blue) and Jeroen van Niele (Livin'BluesXperience), and managed the Freewheelers Cello Band 2008-2022.

Ilene McHolland Vossen
Ilene’s parents had a barbershop choir, so she heard live music before being born. This created a life long love for it. Starting on the Hammond she learned so fast that her dad actually could make money with her demonstrations. At eleven she got her first cello; a love for life. Singing came after she moved to Europe; the blues came after getting with Bas. She beat cancer and still performs, for example at the Cello Congress in Berkeley.

Legends almost always come back. Because of our friends and fans that kept asking if and when they could see us perform.
COVID hit us hard. Real musicians need to play and get responses from audiences. It’s in our blood. Helps our mood. We all want to be good and do good.
Ilene’s 6 string NS design cello had some problems that have been solved now. Bas is still playing his Warwick. We are looking for a good drummer/percussionist. As soon as that position has been filled, we’ll be working!!!
Ilene's Third Ukelele Party happens this Sunday, from 2PM until 5PM, Ilene brings many ukeleles, but if you prefer to strum on your own, go ahead and bring it!

Hello cello blues/rock lovers,
It’s been quiet on our front since COVID started. We played our last band gig March 2020 in Napa city, and since then we only been teaching (Galt Music Exchange). Our love is music and by way of teaching (with face mask if necessary) we could still follow our hearts and share the love.
Ilene had a bad year, with breaking bones everywhere and Bas focused more on making his sailboat Talisman work, so this summer will be a great one on the water.
He now is in the Netherlands to help his family (his dad died) and gauge the live music scene.

Last month was good for us. While we celebrated the holidays with our students in Galt, we also worked on new song material and met potential bookers. Ilene played at the Cello Congress again, and Joe gave her the longest slot to let her present het OWN unique way of interpreting Blues. And: she has proudly become a uke a holic!

Somehow our account was gone. Deleted by someone we don’t know. We had a lot of first positions on this site. Jealousy is what makes this world go around. Not a problem but when it comes to income yes it is a problem. Using tricks, hacks, to be able to buy that car, villa, person will not be a natural way to get there. It never lasts. Happy New Year!

Next, they moved to the US and toured California, Arizona, Nevada, Colorado and Tennessee. Living in a boat in the big Delta, they compose and teach daily. The last performance of the Band was in Napa city, where they got offered a big tour before COVID started. With a CD in the making we know many in the industry are watching. Cello solos still are rare in blues music. Ilene pioneered a lot of those, where others copied. Namaste!
