About Gerner Brothers

Gerner brothers. Simply, we love and have a lot of fun together creating songs and videos. Tracking (sometimes not so much fun lol), mixing, arguing about being too retro or how much distortion or about how long Ben takes to get the final mix ready for master; having life epiphanies while writing lyrics; then imagining storyboards, long walks to find settings and scenes; videoing shots, setting up lighting; finding other talent to help with the video process; all of it and more is the reason we do this. Our only hope is that it never becomes too serious and that someone might listen somewhere and their day will be just a bit better for it. We're definitely not in it for the money.

Ben Goerner (that's me) (proper spelling but often mispronounced), has been playing music for 55 years (damn that sounds old). I started with conservatory piano but quickly tired of it preferring the sound of the beatles and stones at the time. Later I took up guitar and wrote my first song called (ironically) "I still remember". And no I don't remember the lyrics but I remember the chord progression.

I spent a few years on the road in the 80's in cover bands. I became a weekend warrior as I got older and more settled with a career and a family. Currently I thoroughly enjoy the creativity of writing, playing music and filming, both on my own and with me bro.

Karl Goerner is my "get out of the 70's" conscience. He is a director, co producer, guitar player, hook writer, camera man, model, character and most of all my brother in arms (strings in this case). He too started with piano and did pretty good from what I remember. He didn't stick with it though and picked up the guitar about 30 years ago. He has always been very creative with pulling out an amazing mood and theme from very simple little riffs. We write together well and don't fight (much) so it's an ideal partnership.

I have written with other friends as well as will be identified in the songs that get posted here. I also write much on my own as well, though Karl usually has a say in what the finished product will sound like.

I guess this sounds a little like it's all about me but it isn't. I'm just writing this little bit here. Music has, is, and will always be collaborative from the very first wave of vision in one's mind to the final manifestation of all the experience, moods, words, and spirit. Music is far more than playing one note as I'm sure we all know. It really isn't music until that note is cast into a context with other notes. And of course today, we then cast that music into images through video. And mostly we cast out to an audience who will experience the music in as many ways as there are people. The result is synergy.
