Gnossienne 1 !
Bonjour !
I just posted here my new arrangement of Erik Satie´s first Gnossienne for viola da gamba (I had to delete 2 songs) , and with a video on YouTube and Vimeo. https://youtu.be/7zfDSa0_sXk
I do not pretend to respect the will of the composer. To cover the work of another is only interesting if one adds something different to it, and in this case demonstrates my idea of a musical Broken Consort ensemble.
In all music genres and art today, thanks to Edward Bernays and his universally accepted propaganda / public relation suggestion, it is only a question of idols, so it´s just too bad for their fanatics. Music is life, much more than black dots on a piece of paper.
The video was already done 2 weeks ago, but I wanted to verify if the documentary is in the Public Domain. I first sent an e-mail to the Institut Jean Vigo, and got an answer one hour later (the Provincial reactivity), sending me to Gaumont who owns the rights. I wrote then 2 e-mails to Gaumont over 3 days to two different services, and as of today, no answer (that´s the Parisian reactivity…) I decided to post it anyway, under the French proverb « who says nothing consents », we´ll see if they react…
I played 5 viols, acoustic et electric, hang, Tibetan bells and electronics. Rüdiger Maul (of Faun fame) plays frame drum.
As for all my recordings, it is recorded without computer click, and the pitch is A = 432 Hz.
Satie died in 1925, so cannot be the person appearing at the third minute in the Jean Vigo documentary about Nice in 1930 I used (see pic).
I selected the scenes with “old money” and kept the “bottom” people for the next Gnossienne 2…
I wish you much pleasure, and as usual love to read what you think of it !
Gilles
