He picked up the guitar around the age of 7 primarily being influenced by his older brothers who were professional recording artists and practiced in the basement of their parents house. GREGORY HARGROVE’ Mother and Father died when he was at the ages of 8 and 12 respectively. GREGORY HARGROVE was adopted by one of his stepbrother’s and sister in-law and moved to California in 1965 where he lived as an only child. He attended Audubon Jr. High, Dorsey High, and Crenshaw High School’s as he continued to study music and acting. Later GREGORY HARGROVE attended the Dick Grove’s Music Workshop in Studio City, Ca., where he studied advanced music theory and because of his natural ability he was quickly able to perform various music stylings for the guitar in all major genres of music. Shortly thereafter GREGORY HARGROVE would start doing recordings for artists such as; Larry Williams(Fantasy Records known for duet with Johnny Guitar Watson,”Mercy, Mercy Me) and club performances with Rufus Thomas(“Walking The Dog” and “The Funky Chicken”). Around 1979 GREGORY HARGROVE began to gig regularly in Los Angeles and eventually hooked up with Motown Records via the group Ozone who had approached him about doing some demos with them. From that GREGORY HARGROVE recorded two albums with Ozone(“Walk On” and “Jump On It”)and did several concert performances with them before leaving the group. GREGORY HARGROVE also did other recordings at Motown with Teena Marie(“Irons In Fire”)produced by Dick Rudolph, ex husband of the late great Minnie Ripperton, and (“Lady T”), Diana Ross(“It’s My Turn” movie soundtrack starring Jill Clayburgh and Michael Douglas), Kagney And The Dirty Ratz, (Benny Medina, ex vice president of Warner Brothers Records and a writer for the (expired link). show “Fresh Prince Of Belair”) GREGORY HARGROVE has worked with producers such as Angelo Bond writer of “What Becomes Of A Brokenhearted” recorded by Jimmy Ruffin, (the brother of the late great David Ruffin of the Temptations), with the group Ozone and as an independent artist/writer. Angelo Bond also negotiated and got GREGORY HARGROVE’ first independent publishing agreement from Jay Lowery of Jobete Publishing Co., GREGORY HARGROVE performed on Don Kirshner’s Rock Concert and Burt Sugarman’ Midnight Special television shows with Billy Preston and Syreeta (Stevie Wonder”s ex wife)on the “With You I’m Born Again” tour (See (expired link).) GREGORY HARGROVE’s lack of management and family support caused him to retreat to Cincinnati and regroup. Since then he had started gigging regularly around Cincinnati and eventually acquired his own home studio. GREGORY HARGROVE currently is signed with TATE MUSIC GROUP with a new CD entitled, "SONGS TO GROOVE BY", a collection of tasty original and cover song instrumental and vocal selections.
