I truly liked this smooth groove creation by Heather Elain. It had a totally good feel to it right from the start. the content was very informative in letting the listener know what the song and her efforts were about. I think it is radio ready at this time.

I Am is reminding me of the positiveness that was inherent in Chaka Khan's and other female artist's lyrics about the power of womanhood! In that way it was frank and reavealing. Heather I really like it and am looking for more.

Very meaningful message....I am. Something that I can take with me for the days, weeks, and months to come. That's a nice groove and production was well produced, arranged and put together. Very cool!

This track has a lot going on with it! Very busy...... I really like the lyrics to this track, the story line was very nicely written. The background vocals were good and tight, the lead was very nice as well. I thought the track needed some horns/saxophone in there somewhere. I loved the Neo Soul feel to this track as well! All and all I would listen to it on a cd, don't know if it would make it to a radio station, but great coffee shop and poetry set performance gig! Keep up the good work!!! Let me begin by saying, Heather, you have a very versatile singing voice as well as , powerful, and sexy. I was surprised from the beginning of the song at how far back in the mix all of the music is placed. All of the vocals (lead & background) need to blend with the music better by lowering them in volume. Ideally the lead vocal should be at about the same volume level as your drum beat. The background vocals should be mixed in volume under the lead vocal. F.Y.I. Your song "I Am" is in the small percentage of song mixes I hear that the vocals are a little too loud, a very high percentage of artist's mixes the vocals are way too soft. I mention this because I think from an engineer perspective you are heading in the correct direction with the vocals setting on top of the rest of the mix, it just needs some minor volume adjustments. When listening with headphones the lopsided mix was not evident but listening through my computer speakers it was. What this means is that your overall mixdown still needs more compression and I would guess for starters the bass needs a broader spectrum of frequencies in the track its self (so it doesn't get lost when listeners use small speakers like me ). Use caution when listening to your mixes only through the same speakers over and over. Use a variety of listening systems i.e...car, home stereo, headphones, ear buds, or bluetooth speakers, since each music system will give a different playback sound. The final mix of your song should have a professional mix that not only is clear and dynamic but also sounds great on each and every player or system you play it on. Last thought, think about how you can arrange the music in "I Am" to dynamically assist the vocals better. I don’t believe currently the musical arrangement as it is, really supports the songs message and emotion or dynamically supports the lead vocal. (Example) When the lead vocal gets louder with more feeling the music playing under it needs to gradually gain in volume. Here is an old trick; increase the overall volume +1 or +2 on the master faders during the chorus and then back -1 or -2 during the verses. This will automatically give a subtle amount of dynamic energy to the hook or message of your tune. I enjoyed the song. I am giving this song a 3.5 Rating, because I think it still needs polish & shine before it can ascend higher. Thank you for giving me the honor to review your music.
