Horace Johnson
DrummerMy name is, Horace Johnson I was born in England, Dulwich, London, SE22, on the 09-10-1963. Born of Jamaican parentage, I have been playing music for over 22 years. I first started to play the drums at the tender age of 8 years old, where my brother and I, found an old metal drum, and a old metal guitar, over an old dump, which was right next door to us, from where we were living. I soon developed a passion for this thing, but my parents did not like the noise of this thing and soon had to get rid of it. At the age of 11, I started my Secondary School, where I took drum lessons, twice a week, and soon learnt the techniques of holding the sticks, to performing a roll. Soon after having lesson on drumming, I was expelled from lessons for smoking. So I use to go to the music room at lunch time, to practice in secret. After leaving school, I sort of lost the eagerness to play drums, but found that I wanted to make music. My brother went out, at that time, and bought a Four Track machine with a rhythm guitar, a bass guitar and then we started to make music. We soon meet up with an old school friend, who was a bass player, and started to play together, and then we formed our band. The band soon broke up, so we went back to recording. I started to work with a friend, which I have known for over 25 years, right up until now. He started to bring me to all the studios around town, and soon got recognizes by other musicians, for my talent. I have worked with, Roger Robin, Colonel, Sandy, Little San, Papa Levi, B Candy, from the Saxon Hit Factory. Then we started to work with, Viking Disco Mix Sound, where we recorded, artists like, Tad Hunter, Mike Anthony, Top Cat, Leroy Simmons, and more. I went back to playing live music, with a school friend, and my brother, and two other friends, and formed our band Iyah Calling. We have backed artists like, Home T, Red Indian, Bongo Herman, Bomb Dawn, Trevor Legs and G Vibes. We have performed in Jamaica, England, Sweden, Germany and Holland. KeyboardistBorn in 1962 London, England. began my career as a technician/selecta in a sound system in the late 1970s. Ten years later Iwas producing dub plates for sound system with various artist from England and Jamaica. In the 80’s. I studied, studio engineering, at lamp light studios. I have worked with, various singers and musicians. E.g. Victor Cross, Daddy Horseman, G vibes, H. Campbell. T. Sanson, Mafia & Fluxy. Sandra Cross Sugar Dread, Dennis Pinnock, Vivian Jones just to name a few. Mc Daddy Horseman, Papa, Levi, Ricky Ranking and Jooxie Nice. I was inspired by Victor Cross to play keyboards. In the early 90’s, I started playing keyboards for a Production company called Three Mile Records. We produced a number of tacks for various artists and bands. I have worked at various studios over the years and I am still actively involved in music.
