I prefer optimism. It is more beneficial to my mental health. It is quite difficult as I often find the world frustrating and depressing but anyway, you have to keep trying I believe.
Thank you for listening to my music. The three songs on N1M have the themes of: anti-war, concern for people who are hungry and can’t get justice and, keeping our feet on the ground so that we always remember to search for solidarity with people across the world and dismantle barriers.
Of course, all of the above is a tall order and certainly the current world situation seems to be going in the opposite direction. All the more reason in that case to, to stand up for what I believe in which is inclusivity, empathy and sharing those universal human values
Good luck!

Hi there just wanted to say that I hope everyone is managing to get through this pandemic while staying healthy and sane. I also want to thank you all for listening to my music. I would have added more songs but the last time I tried there was a limit on how many songs I could put up...will try again. I am playing quite a bit with local friends where I live now in Harwich on the the east coast of England....mostly contemporary jazz but also some more middle of the road tunes for a sunday morning outdoor band...writing and performing original music remains my long-term aim...very best Jack

They should be available soon for download from (expired link) package is called "Noughties Songs" by Jack Monck with Geoff Leigh best wishes Jack

Hi everyone
Thanks for listening to my tracks! I really appreciate the lovely messages you send me!
The last few weeks have been dominated for me by the death in October of my old friend guitarist and composer Phil Miller. We go back to the late sixties when we met and started playing together in a blues band called Delivery. He went on to play in Matching Mole, Hatfield and the North, National Health and then lead his own band In Cahoots up until 2011. He and I stayed friends and started playing together again with the Relatives in 2010 and he plays on two of my songs on N1M. I am sad to lose him but also want to celebrate his life and achievements-a true legend!
Now I have got to work out the best way to carry on. I want to record some of the new songs we played on our last gig in July so watch this space! As well as being a song-writer I have always been a working bass player and since 1999-a bass teacher. Still enjoying that and have recently got into playing fretless bass (like the great Jaco Pastorius) while continuing to play fretted bass as before......
Keep on listening to all the great music out there and I hope it can help make sense of our beautiful but some times crazy world!

Thanks for listening to my songs. War Song was written and recorded at home in 1993. Since then I have worked as a bassist, song-writer, singer and teacher. I was busy in the UK for some years with a great Moroccan band called Momo before reconnecting with the Relatives in Rotterdam in 2004 along with Marc Hadley. You can find CD's of us at (expired link). When? is taken from our 2013 CD Virtually.....the Relatives+Phil Miller. Recently I have been working with Phil, Marc and drummer Paul Dufour on new music and will shortly be uploading a new track.
