Jai is a multi-instrumentalist/composer/writer/producer from Essex, England, with BBC radio and live concert installation for improvised dance under his belt. Active since 2001, he started the century as Boy Cox, with a tune and bio feature in a London-based new music and short story hard copy zine and CD publication called link. Three (3rd edition), created by Karl Sinfield. Cox’s tune was subsequently name-dropped by Garry Michael Smout in The Barcelona Review online, as an example of the ‘mortar’ holding the disc compilation together.

Later in the decade, Coxki enjoyed airings over BBC radio as Bunter Wilmot, where, on one occasion, the DJ bungled the genre tagline ‘electronic-rock-situation-symphonic-hiphop-narration’, at each end of the song.. mission accomplished? During this time, Jai was experimenting with manipulated field recordings for comedic effect, using client-turned-collaborator-turned-starring role session work.

Seeded from two incarnations; Boy Cox (’99-’06) and Bunter Wilmot (’07-’20) - both featured unofficial band mates from the UK and overseas, providing vocals or instruments on selected tunes - ja!coxk!, from 2021, is now the release name for the whole catalogue.

Jai champions the instrumental, but the written word is not ignored. Neither, too, are occasional profanity and parody - behold!

Other projects comprise screenplays, inventing a new guitar species, book publishing, and illustrated novel; taking a satirical exploration of fetish-kink, AI, human relationships, metaphysics, spirituality and philosophy, with a chunk of his music serving as an unintentional soundtrack to this world.

Jai has occupied studio spaces of varying sizes; from the broom cupboard in a one bed flat, to a lorry storage container - complete with piano and leather corner group.
