"The blues are timeless and so is Jacqui Brown. I’ve been her fan for decades. She’s always surrounded herself with the best musicians and has stayed true to her craft with her honesty and heartfelt singing and songwriting. I look forward to the day when Jacqui attains the widespread recognition she so deserves."
Tom Lavin (Powder Blues) May 2015
One night in the mid 90’s Jacqui Brown had just finished a set opening up for Long John Baldry. At the time, Jacqui was living in Vancouver and had several years under her Rock & Roll belt as a front woman for cover bands yet she had no idea who this artist was. Jacqui found herself moved by this man unlike any other singer she had ever heard. It was the sincerity, the depth, the tone of this artist’s voice and how with every note the truth of his life was heard. Jacqui knew at that moment she was a songwriter; someone who was to convey and express life through music for those who cannot. To be the voice for those who need their stories to be told and expressed in a way so they don’t feel alone.
Although it would still be several more years, she would eventually teach herself guitar and start to write on her own songs. By this time, she was living in Southern Califorina working in media production and raising a Son. Jacqui also travelled throughout the US as the executive director of a Not-for-Profit Youth Global travel security organization which she helped create. All of this while gathering a wealth of experience and knowledge that would eventually provide her songs with lyrics that would have a unique way of phrasing the human condition, and often making astute social commentary.
Shortly after moving back to Canada, she was introduced to a John Burton of “Doug & The Slugs”; a consummate ‘Journeyman Musician’ as well as a genuine Canadian Music Legend and gifted multi-instrumentalist. John had already logged many thousands of hours as a performer, producer, arranger, songwriter, and musical director. John was just who Jacqui needed to move forward as an artist. The result of the union was her debut album “JB & JB Present” as well as an EP “Right Here, Right Now” in 2014. Currently, Jacqui and John are working on a new collection of songs to be released in 2015.
Although, Jacqui’s heart is still very much the girl raised north of 60, she is now an official resident of the city of Toronto and to quote her, “I truly feel like I am home.” Jacqui has been feeling her way around the music venues and scene in the GTA over the past year making fans and friends playing either as an acoustic solo, a Duo with John Burton or as a band. Jacqui Brown is an engaging and dynamic live performer with a lot of soul. Musical genre or artist comparisons really do not apply to Jacqui, she is reminiscent of many and like no other. Her songs and vocal performances are timeless and captivating.
