Jay Rich was born in Kingsport, Tennessee and moved to the Englewood section of Southside Chicago soon after birth. He moved back to Tennessee as an adolescent, and is the second child with one older brother and two younger sisters. Jay Rich became a fan of music at an early age. Jay Rich began writing lyrics at age 15, and started recording at age 16. Jay Rich's tracks are inspired by life events, shaped by his mother's struggle with breast cancer. Jay Rich's role models include Lil' Scrappy, J Cole, Nas, and 2 Pac. 2013: Road to Success EP: Based on a True Story Jay Rich's debut mixtape has a guest appearance by Lil' Scrappy in the song, "Stackin' My Paper" where the world premiere was released by DJ Smallz on Southern Smoke Radio and has been played on Time2Grind Radio in Newark, New Jersey, along with becoming a local fan hit.
