Jennifer Claude is an American R&B/Soul singer, and is a true artist in every sense of the word. When asked to define herself, she quickly replies: “I’m an artist. I am a Singer, a Songwriter, an Arranger, a Composer, a Producer, a Classically Trained Violinist, a Writer, a Poet & a Spoken word Artist. I’m an artist.” And an artist, she certainly is.
Stylistically influenced by Gospel, Jazz, NeoSoul/Soul & Blues, Jennifer admires, and studies the musicianship of artists such as Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Shirley Ceasar, Patti Labelle, India Arie, Kim Burrell, Aretha Franklin, Lisa McClendon, Prince, Kenny “Baby Face” Edmonds, Maxwell, Issac Carree, Joshua Bell, Robert Glasper, Esperanza Spalding, Ledisi, Brandy Norwood, Chrisette Michele, Eric Clapton, Lahlah Hathaway, & Donny Hathaway-just to name a few. Growing up in Wilmington NC, Jennifer started singing for others in her church choir & began writing songs, and poetry at the age of 7 (having started playing the piano by ear at age 3). At 9yrs old, Jennifer found herself on her fisrt big stage, singing and performaing for her community, as part of Wilmington's historic Thalian Hall's TACT [Thalian Association Children's Theater]. Seeing a talent in her for all things musical, her Mother encouraged her to pick an instrument and start taking lessons; so she chose the violin at the age of 11. She played all through middle school and high school receiving numerous awards and accolades. Jennifer then went on to receive classical training in Performance [Violin] & Voice from East Carolina University, & has been playing & singing professionally ever since.
Jennifer Claude is most certainly, an artist to watch. In her own words, “I want to share my love for Christ, and my love for classical music and jazz music and soul music and funk music and just raw passionate organic music, with the world…plain and simple. I want to create art that heals broken people and helps people learn to love again...help them get back to God... that’s important to me. I know what God has said to me, I know He’s given me this heart of worship and love, & I know the gifts He’s given me to worship Him with, & no matter where the road leads, I know to trust Him, completely. I’m taking the light to the darkness. This world needs more of that. More light. More love”
