Grab The Hook!!!
I am plenty old enough to remember "label" days of the rock & roll music business. Thirty years ago I would snail mail cassette tapes with letters of introduction endlessly. The one person I would target with my next "Stairway To Heaven" or "My Mistake" was the head of A&R of the intended record label. That set of ears had to hear the hook in the first few measures, or in the trash went your sweat and efforts (and probably some dreams),
In today's world of discovering talent, I contend that not only is the writer held to creating that hook; they must do it with a broader appeal. A writer never wants their listener to push the stop button or click the "next" icon. The songster is required to give each note and phrase, every ounce of heart and soul wrapped in a composition the audience swears has never been heard before! Daunting and near impossible.
Give my music a listen. Know that I understand you may not enjoy it, but you may love it too!
What ever your impression is, please share it and let's pretend you are one of those big "mucky muck" A&R folks from the eighties, and you are trying to dazzle your fellow board members with your latest musical discovery.
