About John C. McMahan
The latest release from John McMahan, entitled, “just a man (remixed)” reflects the characteristics of gospel that John was introduced in his youth. His music now includes soulful R&B The R&B and Gospel music worlds have always stood close to each other, with artists often switching from one genre to another at different stages of their lives and careers. John C. McMahan is no different; the Indiana born singer/songwriter began his music career in the world of R&B, highly touted as the next fresh, smooth blue-eyed artist much in the mold of Jon B. And McMahan was doing his thing, giving standout performances with such noted R&B artists as Montell Jordan and Blaque. And some of this buzz McMahan was receiving was happening while he was a (expired link). Marine, stationed at MCAS New River, North Carolina.
Things were going well for McMahan; his career was on the rise, and he could see himself being a chart-topping artist in R&B for years to come. But as is often said, you don’t choose the Lord, but rather, He chooses your path and when you should begin your true calling. As fate would have it, McMahan was called to the ministry and his anointing called for him not only to preach the gospel, but to sing it as well. Singing gospel music was nothing new to McMahan; after all he was raised as much on christian music as he was on R&B and hip hop. “When I [was making] R&B music, I used to write half-truth, half-fantasy,” McMahan said. “The transformation to gospel is simply when I write now, I write complete truth, and the listener can base the situation in the song on truth.” But McMahan had to stay true to himself, and that meant not giving up his R&B influence and flavor that propelled him to initial music success.
After years of tinkering in his music lab, McMahan steps to the music world, with his debut effort, “just a man (remixed)”. The album blends gospel sensibilities with R&B musical stylings. The result is a project that appeals to the gospel in R&B listeners, and the R&B in gospel lovers. In short, “just a man (remixed)” provides uplifting music for the body and soul. A minister at heart, McMahan never shies away from giving you his message of praise and worship, and he seals it in an R&B package that pumps you up all while inspiring you at the same time. “When I hear the music and it agrees with my spirit, I can automatically write an entire song,” McMahan says. “I also get other people’s opinions to see what they like and don’t like about the song.”
And it doesn’t stop with the ministry and music. McMahan was bitten by the acting bug and he has answered the call, appearing on the stage, television and film. “I love to act, and I am [looking for] more opportunities.” McMahan says. The time is now for John C. McMahan to spread his message through his numerous talents.
He might be just a man, but his talent and message make John C. McMahan so much more.
