About Johnny Van Veld & Bare Knuckles

Johnny Has been involved in the Music & Entertainment Business for over 30 years. He’s seen it from almost every perspective, including Nightclub Manager, and even Nightclub Owner.
He’s an Award winning Poet, a skilled writer, and sometimes, controversial journalist. Some of his best work included his stint with GIG magazine, (Barrie’s Entertainment Magazine throughout the ‘90's), where he strove to legitimize and promote Indie talent through his column, “Scene & Heard”. That Column also held some rather scathing reviews of the Big Machine Called the Music Industry.
Johnny has always been a proponent of the independent artist, and still promotes these artists today, through his efforts as a Feature host in both terrestrial & internet Radio Broadcasting.
As the first General Manager of Hanover Ontario’s “‘Bluewater Radio”, he introduced policies that led to On Air personalities coming from within the arts, rather than regular channels. One particular host that Johnny introduced twelve years ago, Lincoln Miller, is still there today and still producing great radio.
Johnny has appeared before the CRTC on behalf of radio broadcasting companies, so that they could also push for more independent product & content in terrestrial radio in Canada.
He currently has a feature show on Independent Internet Radio Station 92.6 TheBlitz, entitled “In The Mix”, in Hollywood California, providing tips & techniques for Indie’s in their recording efforts.
As for his Live shows, Johnny has always been a little “Over The Top”, as it were, entertaining audiences with wild stage antics, and an abundance of attitude. Recently, after suffering spinal injuries, he has had to slow it down, he is however, listening to his doctors & physiotherapists, and doing his best to get back out there as a Solo artist, with an Acoustic show, featuring all of his classic & new radio tunes, and some of his favourite cover songs.
He’s produced several albums for his own projects as well as for other artists including Barrie’s own Ragtop, Oliver’s Twist, twist, and two compilations for Central Ontario Broadcasting, all of which have received, and in some cases are still receiving radio play throughout Ontario, and the world.
His Latest endeavour, “My Own Man”, is Johnny’s first real solo album. He wrote & Co-wrote every song on the Album. Played all of the Guitars on the Album, and in some cases, Played All of the Instruments on the songs recorded.
With the help of a few good friends, Johnny Has proudly put together an Excellent Effort!
