Song Reviews

Mellow in a Minor Key.

Nice songs like this have a great release feel to them. This song does that and more. The back up vocals have that cool invisible effect that helps you feel the message more, and that's easy to find very enjoyable. As the song continues, the Allman Brothers style easiness carries very well to give a cool other-worldly effect that is a bit beyond a Southern Rock style. Great song.

Very Nice!

I like the melody and the chord progression. The guitar work is especially good. The vocal harmonies sound really nice. The lyrics are thoughtful and original. The drum parts are tasteful and fill in really well. I wish you lots of success in the future.

Thoughtful and original

Wonderful, thoughtful, instrumentation. This includes, a well balanced vocal palette, with appropriate backing sung to perfection. The song was enjoyable to listen to and sounds quite commercial, excellent for the Country charts. The instrumentation is particularly effective with each instrument playing its part in adding to the entire project. An excellent listen, well worth your attention.

Return of The King

Is it just me or is this song reminiscing about your many memories of journeys to heaven? I found it a revelation. Beautifully composed with every note that resonate reflections of those times in secret places. I especially respect the blending together of the guitars that resonate with the perfect melodies of the chorus. As if it was composed then heard in heavenly realms and brought to us on your return. The blend of vocals is also beautiful in because of the expression of longing and yearning for that soon coming return and reunion with The King.

It was an obvious comparison to make with Jethro Tull after seeing John Wessel's photograph but the sound is much more 70's California with great harmonies and melodic lead guitars. I can sense Fleetwood Mac and Steely dan as influences and if you like those bands you are going to enjoy John Wessel's music. This track is beautifully constructed with a restrained opening and a building to a great climax. I felt the track really lifted once the backing vocals came into play. A very enjoyable track for a Sunday and it took me on a magic carpet ride back to the mid 70's. Check out John's music it will be well worth your time.

Hi John. Great song. Excellent production. Musically well done ! Great guitars. The harmony of the voices is great also. The sologuitar reminds me a bit of on the one hand Joe Frusciante and on the other hand of Steely Dan. Were you somehow influenced by those artists ? It's very Sunny; I've visited the Sunny state and had a great time over there. It really makes me reminisce... Although this is a good composition, it just lacks a little bit of catchiness by which it could contain hitpotential. But hey, I bet you've been on the local radio already with this kind of musical quality, no ? Curious for more of your music. Check: N1M search: spiceypete. That's my music. So, if you would be so kind to send me a much appreciated reaction. Greetings and love from Pieter B. from Ghent, Belgium

Beautiful introduction and solo. Nicely consistent track in meter and instrumentation choice. The second solo starts less confidently, but quickly recovers. If this solo was cut from the track entirely, I believe it would make the song better formatted for song charts.

Enjoyable Composition

This song sounds like a great audio sample from a rehearsal. It isn´t perfect, but the band had fun and enjoyed obviously making music together. And that gives the music magical moments. I really like the introducing with the stratocaster sound from the e-guitar, which is also playing the main role in this composition. After that, John Wessel beginns with his unique vocals but the whole composition is more various. The chorus sounds really great in a varied pitch range of the refrain. You will hear a spontanious solo from the lead guitarist, what makes the music rich and brings the listener on the next level. The drummer is playing his parts very engaged and straight. This and the steady bass-line in this arrangement is an extra factor what brings an additionally feeling into the music. In a way, this song sounds more creative than others. This composition is definitely professional arranged, influenced by alternativ rock and pop music like Fleetwood Mac, Steely Dan and the Eagles in perfect orchestration. I can´t stop listen to this song and I´m sure, you will like to add it. Let others know your recommendation.

Great song, great sound, great arrangement, great mix, great vocal performance. There are a few moments during the recording that the guitarist sounds like he messed up and the band followed him and recovered with him as he recovered. Once during the lead and once during the end. It is noticeable enough that it pulled me out of the world of the song. Unfortunately they sound like the kind of mistakes that are impossible to fix.

The song structure is reminiscent of the Band, which is no bad thing. Love the drum sound strait off the Big Pink, The instrumentation and harmonies are first class unfortunately the lead voice lets the whole production down, I would suggest a partnership with a stronger vocalist, cos in my mind the song has great subject matter but the voice lets it down ......Sorry. On the whole a good effort though.

review of 'Return of the King'

Pink Floyd meets Dire Straits in the intro...soon breaks into something more like Neil young as it goes on. Great voice I have to say, could be great for country too as your tone is quite like a young Willie Nelson too. Nicely played and mixed all the way through. A nice use of guitar tones and chord progressions. I'd definitely like to hear you sing more stuff. A real potential and talent for sure. Great, keep em coming!

Good country

Good Country, like the strings, like the balance in sound transforming melody, could have had a lot more to talk about or to say in the song but, over all I was impressed with what I heard. Good Job.

Nice song needing a better studio outcome

Nice intro with a good progression into the verse. Tempo establishes well, good verse to chorus transition. Drums overall bit clunky which detracts from song. Playing ok just a mix issue or eq and maybe a touch late here or there. Editing may have fixed that. Leading guitar nice but again the mix in terms of blend depth and general tone letting things down. The actual playing.quite ok. Lead vocal nice and background singers complement nicely. Overall I like the song better mix and mastering would benefit this quite good song.
