Vivid alternative rock

This is a awesome recorded song, beginning with a very engaging piano sound. Make me remember of music from bands like Jethro Tull out of the 1970. Could be a contribution to some of this rock bands. The singer has a unique voice and a strong vocal projection. Pleasant e-guitar solo and an accompaining saxophone completes the arrangement. The extra rock factor brings more interest into the song. The drummer pushing with a steady puls the music on the point. Overall a really impressive composition and vivid recording from a very ambitionated musican. Lyrics telling an engaging story about hard live and the development of events beyond a person's control, regarded as determined by a rough power. This song has a important message and it´s originally. Listen to the music and if you like add him. Let others know your recommendation.

I like the piano!

I like the start up of this song, I like the vocals, and the lyrics. And the trouble in Mexico is a good hook but everything sounds like it is coming from the front. USE the pan on your mix so that everything is well rounded and not so straight forward. Everything sounding like it's coming from the front and all your instruments are drowning each other out. I would put the vocals only on the front two speakers then pan in 15 degree increments going from treble to bass except drums which can be front also. Hope this help. It's a great song with good fun vibes!

There is much to appreciate with this tune, it has a well executed beat, and an intelligent set of lyrics, but it is its remenicience of the Rolling Stones that first caught this reviewer's ear. Remenicience does not mean copycatting to my sensibility, as it is distinctive and really the artist's own.

A heady mix of Californian rock with "mussel shoals" style horns. Hypnotic vocal chorus that drives the song along, but I thought the main vocals were too far down in the mix for my taste which made it difficult to follow the story.

Interesting.

Nice discovery here ! I like the orchestration, the 1st solo part, the verses are ok. Altough, the mixing of the song is a bit muddy, the lead vocalist must improve his singing a bit (he sings well but sometimes in the song he's off chords... I don't know if it's intended) and it's a little bit too long. But it's a nice song, I like it !

Jamie Mitchell - Down In Mexico

All in all I enjoyed the song DOWN IN MEXICO, The song has a Santana feel to it , which is not a bad thing. It could stand to be recorded again under more controlled conditions. Remember a bad recording of good music is far more valuable than a good recording of bad music. I wish you a lot of luck with DOWN IN MEXICO

Fun Piece

Mixing and vocals needs some work. I started loosing interest in the song about half way through the song and almost stopped listening to it as the music started sounding repetitive.

John Wessel - Down in Mexico

John Wessl'sDown in Mexico is an old school guitar and piano driven rocker, the kind of song that emigrated from California back in the seventies. If that is the kind of music that floats your boat you are in for a treat with this track. I enjoyed it very much, it is not overproduced and the vocal is excellent. The rhythm section remains tight throughout the five minutes plus allowing the piano and guitars to play around the basic melody. John hails from Paso Robles California and I dig the fact that the music sounds exactly as it should from that part of the world. I am writing this review from a frigid New York city and this track has helped warm me up. I have reviewed Johns music previously and this is my favourite track of his that I have had the pleasure to listen to. Music to drive to, music to heat up the day. Just good music.

Steely Dan meets Masters of Funk

Could not help but notice the elements and memories of Steely Dan when listening to this tune. Yet it was infused with jam band, NoLa and straight up folk... A nice eclectic piece of music. Enjoy!!!! Good Luck!!!

Heading For Success

What a breath of fresh air this is, it sounds like a track from Jesus Christ Superstar and really stands out in a good. It's massive, with more layers than a granny at the Arctic. The sing along factor is off the scale and the back beat is a stomper. The guitar covers the track with some precious flair and the whole band have a ripping time on the groove. Great vocals and lyrics and a loose feel give us a an easy ride with beautiful bumps. Great job guys, brilliant !

song has potential

this song is fine, but lacks recording skills, and mixing techniques. Overall its ok if you are just having fun. If it was properly recorded and engineered it would stand out alot more than it does.

60s Garage Band Feel

It does have a 60s Garage Band feel to it that really seems to go well with the rhythm of the song. The horns and the tube amp Guitar complete the sound as do the vocalists, particularly the background vocals. I like that it does tell a story in the lyrics which gives it a real classic vibe.

nice song

Nice song. Good story. I like the guitars. And the trumpets or saxes or whatever, the horns. Hey John. I didn't catch most of the story, but it's quite clear to me that you've got a lot to say. That, is something a singer songwriter certainly has to have ! I like your song very much but you should try to put a break in it. That way, the song gets stuck more easily into your listeners brains. I've been in Mexico. Tijuana actually. The logistic difference between the USA and Mexico is... apalling... Please.
