Song Reviews

Well done!

Great song!!! A simple tune with great vocals. When I heard the vocals to this song I was hooked from the start. If you listen to this song it will be in your head all day it has a great hook, pushing flavor.

Pushing Flavor

Jon J Dub Walkosak's Pushing Flavor is a fine example of Mid West country tinged acoustic music. I particularly enjoyed the chorus with its overlapping melody lines. The track starts in familiar Americana territory but manages to stay clear of cliches due to the interesting lyrics and that excellent hook line of a chorus. The vocal is strong throughout and the production retains a sense of honesty - you feel that Jon is singing to you in your front room. Nice track.

This is a hit!

A precious piece of acoustic music - bare and naked, just an acoustic guitar and a voice (ok, sometimes two voices that seem to talk to each other). The song's got a clear structure, no unnecessary gimmicks or prolonging parts. Pretty straight forward, and well produced. I'd really like to hear this one played by a band. Not a big one, just a rhythm section, maybe even with an acoustic bass guitar, plus your guitar and maybe a Wurlitzer keyboard in the background. I'm sure this would be a hit!

Great Job

Hey Jon, Just wanted to come through and give you props on your track. I think that you did a wonderful job man. I am, of course, from a different genre but I appreciate "ALL GOOD MUSIC" and you have something here. Really looking forward to checking out some more of your work man. In closing, KEEP THE GOOD THINGS COMING!..Peace..DLO

Hit song

A really good song, nice recording, clear vocals, good guitars, I think this song should be produced and sold to someone who can give it to a famous person, you can make large amounts on royalties, it's got all the marks of a hit record, good radio song - I could imagine Taylor Swift, Bryan Adams, Bon Jovi, singing it... or so many others of that genre.... man/woman. The parts of the recording where you double up the vocals and put reverbs on, is cheesy, needs re-production there, it's a cool idea, but not done well enough to pull it for big time.....

sound good

I like it, good sound, voices and guitar, its remember me a song of a fe years ago, that I really like. I like your voice, perhaps the volume of chorus is a bit strong in some points..it seems to come from the shoulders.

Nice

I think you should try to get it played on the radio. It sounds like something people would enjoy. It has potential I just think you need to get it out there and have people listen because it does sound like something that should be on the radio

cool little number

Was presently surprised by this song when I click on it. You never know what's gonna come out of the speaker on here, even though I know music is relative to the ear of the beholder, some stuff I don't know what's going on sometimes. This. Not bad, not bad at all. Very simple, well written, good old folk style song writing yet modern feel, with a good voice and very catchy chorus hook. Nothing over the top but more then not, thats exactly how it should be. This song is just that. Exactly how it should be.

Pushing Flavor

There is something about a singer and his guitar in isolation that is stark but satisfying. These days overproduction can spoil songs, but not here! The voice in this song is very relatable and listenable. The call / response of the two voices works for me. The categories of Acousic/Soul is spot on. So here I am enjoying the flavor of this song. Uhmmm tasty!

Greenday revisited

Jon J Dub Walkosak brings us Pushing Flavor, a call and response acoustic ballad of the american experience. A road worthy song reminiscent of John Cougar and early Tom Petty. From a producers perspective this song actually deserved to have some additional instrumentation and a backing rhythm on the buildup. It has that kind of potential for a greater song than it is right now. The only issue I have with the recording is that I would have compressed or limited the guitar just a little bit more so it didn't cover up the vocals on the rhythm stroke. Other than that this song is mixed quite well sans the extra instrumentation.

back to basics

Hi Jon J, Thanks for posting this song. I've listened to many on this platform and am truly amazed at the poor level of song-craft and vocal performance. I wonder whether these people exist in blissful isolation, without anyone to advise them to the contrary. And here you go with a 'no frills' song that, despite it's conventions, is still convincing. It is well sung (though I have some reservations on the introduction of a second voice on the chorus) and well played on the acoustic. I take it for what it is, and it works for me.

review of pushing flavor

this is a raw recording of a nice song, using only acoustic guitar and vocals. I like the melody of the verse, very strong. I'd love to hear this song recorded with other instruments. I think it could have a real 'southern' feel to it if done right. It's certainly a catchy song, even if I'm not sure really what 'pushing flavor' means. It has a bit of Blackberry Smoke to it, good voice but I'd really like to hear it recorded with the band....great song!

Clean and cool

Love the clean ,crisp vibe of this song. Great playing and the 2nd vocal track works really good. song you wanna hear all the way to the end and then listen a lot more times. Your voice works well on this. Keep up this feel and I'll reviewing and recommending more.

WHERE ARE THE DRUMS?

Is this just a home demo? Even if that is the case, I would add some accompaniment after the first verse, otherwise the song gets very repetitive. You could also use some kind of break/bridge after the second chorus. reminds me a lot of "What going On" by Four Non-Blondes, and that is a great example of a song with a KILLER CHORUS, but no chord change. I like the sentiment of the lyrics and the passion in the vocals. Seems like it should be a faster tempo, more of a ska thing to me.

Tasty Tune Full of Flavor

Jon J Dub Walkosak song Pushing Flavor has an easy going, west coast great feel vibe to it ! Great lyrics, acoustic guitar work in this song and would give the likes of Uncle Cracker a run for his Money on any chart !! A positive flow with melody and a wonderful message on continuing to be yourself and keeping peace of mind, love in your heart no matter what life gives you !!! A++ work and my hats off to you friend!!

Good

The song is very melodic. I like it. Singer reminds me of Michael Stipe from REM, especially on the chorus. It is a well arranged song and the pieces fit together nicely. It has good pauses in spots to keep interest and the chorus parts are nice and distinct from the verses. This song is a good effort. A lot can be done with this bare bones trac in production so I am just judging it as underlying work. It shows a lot of potential, is upbeat, cheerful, and positive. The vocal is very clear and blends well with the guitar work and fits the arrnagement. Good work!

healthy tonic

Smooth, well-balanced sound, voice and guitar blend nicely. Melody and chords have an optimistic feel, which is appropriate for the lyrical message. The mood is tinged with a wistful flavor, which gives it a depth of feeling that an utterly happy song would not impart. Not a complex work, effective in its communication and deftly performed.

This track is simple but the lyrics have weight. The vocal delivery is great and really holds the track together. The recording is fine and the harmonies adds depth. Can't say enough of the quality of the lyrics, it really is the reason for this review. Definitely worthy of a couple of listens as the story is great and the sing along chorus gets under your skin third time in. Well done Jon, brilliant !

Pushing Flavor

Hiya Jon, many thankx for the review request. I like the staccato start to the song, voice and guitar. The tempo of the song is nice and controlled, and the guitar playing is on the button. I liked the almost ''question and answer'' style of the song, with the two voices interacting, and also blending nicely together. There were sectors of the song that had a slight ''Dylan-esque'' touch to them - niiice. All in all, a great song, very well sung, with good vocal control, and nice timbre in the voice. The guitar playing also filled the song nicely, steady throughout. Congrats to you - Well done .
